Cosplaying Genshin Impact Mona in this maid outfit on the day of the Firefly ACG Expo, the overall visual feedback and on-site photo results were indeed much more satisfying than expected.
Regarding costume detail choices, I focused heavily on fabric choices and element coordination. The main body utilized deep blue-purple satin with a pronounced luster, a material that presents extremely rich color layering under the convention's overhead lights. Black intricate lace was spliced along the neckline edge, softening the fabric's stiffness and adding a touch of breathability. The shoulders featured white ruffled short sleeves, which, combined with the very wide ruffled white apron on the body, added a sweet touch to this modified maid outfit compared to the original design. Golden lettering patterns were embroidered at the apron's chest, surrounded by several delicate gold chains with star pendants, echoing the star theme of the character's Constellation.
Plenty of additions were made regarding accessories. Besides a black leather choker around the neck, multiple delicate gold chains extending to the chest were layered, with stars dangling at the ends. Between the pure white ruffled headband on top and the oversized deep blue bows on both sides, a meticulously crafted metal hairpiece combining a moon and stars was pinned, coordinating the visual center of gravity of the overall look exceptionally well. Striking large red bows adorned both sides of the skirt hem; the dangling ribbons perfectly broke up the somberness of the dark skirt, creating a dynamic effect when walking around.
Makeup, hair, and base styling were also adjusted around this ensemble. The wig featured a black-to-purple gradient effect, cut with layered blunt bangs and tied into low twintails, with just the right amount of volume to frame the face. For makeup, the contours of eyeliner and eyeshadow were softened to preserve a clear look in the eye makeup, while blush was applied naturally alongside a dewy lip finish, giving an overall softer style. The black star mesh stockings cosplay on the legs served as the key to elevating the mood of the entire outfit; paired with black chunky-heeled Mary Jane shoes featuring silver buckles, it maintained the cute attributes of a maid outfit while adding a touch of mature charm.
The indoor lighting at Guangzhou Anime Convention Firefly ACG Expo was complex, with rows of intense lights atop the exhibition hall testing the photographer's lighting control, yet perfectly accentuating the luster and silhouette of this reflective fabric. Multiple poses were attempted during the on-site photoshoot: a standing pose lifting the skirt hem displayed the fluffy skirt shape; sitting on the floor with one hand resting on the chin felt more natural and relaxed, catering to leg details like stockings and shoes; while kneeling on one knee with fingers gently touching the chest was ideal for highlighting collarbones, chains, and overall tailoring lines, capturing rich information in front of the lens.
Foot traffic at the expo that day was immense, and walking back and forth while maintaining stamina was indeed physically demanding. However, wearing this costume in the convention atmosphere, accompanied by surrounding shutter clicks and lights, allowed me to quickly immerse myself in it. This fan-made maid costume recreated the original work with secondary creative design, adding many elements unique to maid dresses while preserving the character's original star, moon, and astrology themes, drawing many photographer shutter clicks on site.
Overall, this outfit not only brought a refreshing visual impression, but also achieved a great balance between comfort and styling when worn. I hope this convention snapshot record provides some outfit and photography inspiration for friends who enjoy similar styles, and it leaves me looking forward even more to the next street event.
