For this Arknights Muelsyse cosplay photoshoot, the theme was set as "Sea Salt Yellow Lemon MuMu." The overall palette featured a refreshing light yellow and white, perfectly fitting the vibrant energy we wanted to express. The shooting location was a modern architectural space with escalators and adjacent walkways, utilizing natural light to enhance the translucency of the frame.
Let's talk about the hair and makeup first. Featuring long golden hair and Elf ears, the most striking element of the whole look was the open yellow leaf umbrella, along with the white jacket with green straps and the black skirt. For makeup, an elegant light-yellow palette was chosen, making skin tones appear more luminous and translucent under backlighting. To enhance visual focus, the lower body was styled with Black stockings and knee-high boots, creating a longer, leaner silhouette that accentuated leg lines during the shoot.
The shooting process went smoother than expected. Photo 1 was an upward low-angle shot at the base of the escalator; the photographer used a wide-angle lens, utilizing the glass balustrade as visual leading lines, combined with strong background light to create a dreamy halo in this Backlit photography setup. Photo 2 was my favorite in this series: sitting on the escalator steps, relying entirely on a wide aperture and shallow depth of field to highlight the face. The afternoon light filtered through the glass just right; after lowering the exposure, the entire subject looked exceptionally radiant and clear. The sideways sitting posture also showcased long legs in Black stockings. That close-up smiling at the camera caught the exact moment of adjusting my expression—seemingly effortless, yet demanding precise lighting angles and placement.
Afterward, we moved to the adjacent walkway for full-body shots. A gentle breeze blew at just the right time, catching the long hair. To capture the wind-blown motion alongside drifting soap bubble props, the shutter speed had to be increased. The rim lighting along the hair edges produced gorgeous bokeh highlights, infusing the entire frame with vibrant vitality. For this bright, refreshing tone, post-processing color grading primarily lifted shadows slightly and introduced a soft yellow-green transition into the highlights, bathing the scene in a sun-drenched atmosphere.
Moving and posing on the escalators required extra safety precautions, so most poses were carefully staged in fixed spots before snapping. We tried relaxed standing poses and seated step postures, using the escalator's structural lines to keep the composition dynamic. For live-action photos in this anime aesthetic, capturing character demeanor is essential—maintaining a gentle smile and a light, airy posture.
The weather during the shoot was fantastic. Although carrying so much gear was exhausting, continuously hunting for optimal angles under natural light made the final results wonderfully surprising. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of coordinating with the photographer to catch specific light rays—all in all, a delightful and highly efficient photography experience.
