To capture the authentic atmosphere of Genshin Impact's Lantern Rite, we intentionally selected an antique, traditional location for a night shoot. In costume preparation, Keqing's iconic purple twin-tails had to be styled sleek and silky smooth, while the starry gradient hemline trailing behind and the Black stockings adorning the legs were packed with meticulous detail. Choosing the right fabrics and careful steaming took considerable effort to ensure exquisite specular reflections under intricate night illumination. Collaborating with photographer Shi Wang was a wonderful experience, and we spent a long time dialing in our lighting design. Rows of warm amber lanterns in the backdrop provided rich ambient illumination, but to cleanly separate my face and silhouette from the dark shadows, a key light was used for facial clarity alongside rim backlighting to trace the body contours. In the shots seated upon the balustrade of the red wooden bridge, the focus lay on showcasing leg contours and organic curvature; paired with deep blue LED underlighting shimmering across the water, the visual contrast between warm red and cool blue popped instantly, while the Black stockings revealed a delicate, refined sheen under the lights.
To heighten the fantasy essence, subtle purple lightning arcs and snow-like light particle effects were added in post-production. The opening photo wielding the sword, with electrical currents coursing around the blade, captures her signature Electro element seamlessly. Night photography presents tricky hurdles with low-light autofocus and demands immense physical stamina, as I constantly had to hunt for balance points along the bridge to adjust my posture while keeping the dress hemline flowing naturally. The prop sword also had noticeable heft, so maintaining a relaxed posture alongside a sharp, piercing gaze required genuine core engagement. The temperature was quite chilly that evening, but waiting on the bridge with shimmering reflections rippling across the water and faint candy-craft stall signs glowing in the distance immersed me completely, elevating my performance before the lens.
To honor the festive celebration, we framed compositions so that warm glowing lanterns hugged the edges of the frame as a natural visual vignette, allowing the sweeping curve of the red bridge to guide the viewer's eyes to the center. Low-angle upward perspectives helped elongate body proportions while allowing the long cape at the back to drape naturally. Throughout the shoot, to ensure sword-wielding poses appeared crisp without stiffness, we explored varied dynamics: upright stances, leaning gracefully to the side, and relaxed seated postures. The final results radiate both her signature decisive sharpness and the gentle tenderness of the Lantern Rite. I hope this photo set filled with Liyue charm brings everyone wonderful luck for the new year.
