This time at the convention, the preparation time wasn't actually long, but cosplaying the character 'Puppet' from 'Genshin Impact' still required nitpicking many small details. Although she is a presence with her own independent character setting, for a non-plot demonstration, I feel the core proposition of the entire shoot is to convey that elegance along with a trace of mysterious arrogance. Therefore, I specially selected this red vintage button-tufted leather sofa at the convention venue as the main backdrop. The red leather texture is highly eye-catching and can beautifully set off the dominant color scheme of white and blue-black patchwork in this costume, along with that pair of fluffy animal ears on top of the head, adding some layers and playfulness to the entire frame instead of being merely serious.
Speaking of this outfit, a lot of effort was truly made during its production. The white off-the-shoulder tailoring of the upper body, combined with that striking ruby embellishment on the black high-neck collar, is what I personally consider the most elegant part of this look. To ensure smooth shoulder lines, not only must the interior fit the skin tightly, but it also has to ensure that the multiple layers of materials on the outside do not look bulky. The arm portion adopts a separated upper-and-lower design: the top features deep red ruffled sleeves, and the bottom consists of deep blue slim-fitting long sleeves, paired with white and golden geometric stitching, giving it a highly sophisticated uniform feel. The black-and-white pleated skirt and pale yellow trim on the lower body, paired with white stockings, are actually an important reason why many players love this look; pairing white stockings with the Puppet setting indeed manifests a type of visual contrast beauty.
Huge efforts were also poured into the makeup and hair. Because the Puppet herself requires that voluminous yet layered golden-brown long straight hair, the animal ears headband on my head was individually customized. To coordinate with the overall temperament, I specially picked a relatively natural hair color without making it overly flamboyant. The blue contact lenses and the delicate pink transition eyeshadow around the eyes are the core of my makeup this time. Pink eyeshadow can add a touch of softness to the face amidst the cool-toned clothing, preventing the entire person from looking too aggressive. To match the character's somewhat unconventional vibe, I also deliberately made some adjustments in expression management, such as that posture in the first photo where I slightly tilt my head with a finger gently touching my lips, which both showcases a bit of playfulness and retains a sense of mystery.
During the shoot, I held two white paper bags in my hands as temporary props. Honestly, I originally wanted to find props that fit the worldview better, but due to constraints in the venue environment, the paper bags instead brought an effect of contrast cuteness. In this set of photos on the red sofa, the camera angles were actually relatively high overhead shots and semi-high shots, an angle that can beautifully showcase the proportions of the legs. Like the white stockings combination I chose this time, it can elongate the visual length wonderfully, and when paired with the red-brown stiletto leather shoes on my feet and the golden bows at the ankles, the overall vintage feel entirely comes out.
Standing from a performer's perspective, the character 'Puppet' in Genshin Impact possesses a highly unique charm. Her setting inherently carries a trait where refinement and danger coexist. Therefore, when editing the photos post-shoot, I also deliberately preserved some skin textures and natural folds of the clothing fabric without performing excessive skin smoothing, hoping to let everyone feel that this is a realistic, three-dimensional character present on-site, rather than a cold set of pictures.
The convention venue environment was actually quite noisy, but as long as I sat on that red sofa, it felt like the surrounding clamor was isolated a bit. The breathability of this costume's fabric is okay, but because of the indoor air conditioning, my shoulders still felt a bit chilly after wearing it for a long time. However, to successfully pull off a character, these are considered minor prices to pay. Actually, every time I go out in such large-production costumes, I always feel a bit anxious in my heart, fearing that the replication accuracy isn't enough, or that I won't be able to express the aura the character should have.
However, after the photo output came out, seeing these details recorded in the lens on my body brought quite a sense of achievement. The red sofa, white stockings, animal ears, and exquisite makeup—these elements combined are my interpretation of this character. Without piling up flamboyant words, I merely completed this convention photos session as hard as I could. I hope this set of photos can let everyone see a relatively authentic 'Puppet' belonging to the live convention scene.
