This set of Black★Rock Shooter cosplay gear took quite some time from preparation to the final makeup look, with the focus on balancing the proportion of black and blue tones as well as the center of gravity of the props. The wig chosen this time is a specially customized black-and-blue twin tails look. To recreate that slightly sharp texture at the hair tips from the original setting, I spent a long time styling it before going out. The two blue rose hair accessories on the head serve not only as visual focal points but also as color anchors for the overall look, echoing the cool blue of the colored contact lenses.
The great sword in hand is the core of this look. Its thickness and weight really test the wrist's support when striking a pose, and I especially love the dynamic movement of turning sideways and holding the sword horizontally in the photo, which perfectly showcases Black Rock Shooter's cool yet dashing tension. The costume has many details like straps and metal fasteners, and the combination of black lace and leather fabrics creates excellent layering under the camera flash. Since it was a convention photography environment, the lighting was quite complex, and I'd like to emphasize that the photographer this time was very skilled at catching the facial contour light, keeping the overall makeup clean while highlighting that cold gaze.
For Black Rock Shooter, posture management is very important; every movement must have a sense of power rather than just lifting the props up. This time, I chose cool-toned eye makeup to match the character's aloofness. Combined with the twin tails tied to the sides and some swift body movements, the overall presentation achieved exactly the effect I wanted. Choosing a relatively dark tone for the overall setting was also to fit the character's night attribute, creating a strong contrast between the bright blue and black. Posting to record these convention photos also serves as a look back at my results from focusing on the fine details for this Anime cosplay project.
