[Umaru cosplay] Himouto! Umaru-chan: Outdoor Recreation Share

This finished set of Himouto! Umaru-chan cosplay photos was shot in a Water park area. We originally planned to shoot indoors, but seeing the fine weather and bright sunshine, the photographer and I decided to try shooting outdoors, taking advantage of the Water park's water slides and railing elements.

This outfit is a classic casual everyday style: a red hooded sweatshirt paired with a black inner top and shorts, along with black Over-the-knee socks and a red beret. The overall color saturation looks very high under strong outdoor sunlight. During the shoot, the photographer constantly adjusted positions; because the overhead sun outdoors was intense, reflectors were needed for fill light—especially where the black Over-the-knee socks meet the black shorts, which could easily blend together if lighting wasn't handled properly, so we put a lot of thought into choosing angles.

Since this set mainly follows a cute and crisp aesthetic, I spent most of the shoot fine-tuning my gaze and hand placement. For instance, the third full-body pose leaning against the railing was designed to elongate the leg lines while giving the black stockings a smoother sheen. In a vibrant, highly reflective background like a Water park, balancing half-body and full-body proportions is crucial. The length of the hair and curvature of the bangs had to remain in top shape; when the wind picked up, quick touch-ups and adjustments were needed, but fortunately, the red beret helped keep the hairstyle in place.

In fact, as cosplay, this Umaru outfit is the type with low shooting difficulty but a very high success rate for great shots. Because the character's traits are so distinct, overly complex poses aren't necessary—all it takes is capturing that slightly lazy and adorably goofy demeanor. During the shoot, I also discussed composition with the photographer, such as avoiding messy slide lines in the background as much as possible and using railings as foreground elements to add depth to the frame.

UV rays were strong on the day of the shoot, but because sunscreen prep was thorough, my skin stayed in good condition. The red hoodie looked vibrant and radiant in the sunlight without feeling muted. To match this outfit, platform shoes provided a grounded stance that balanced the overall proportions. Although outdoor shooting is tiring and requires constantly watching out for harsh direct sunlight on the face, the final photos met expectations.

For characters with a strong everyday feel, props don't need to be intricate—the red hat, hoodie, and Over-the-knee socks are the core iconic elements. Post-processing primarily removed environmental color clutter to make the subject pop while preserving the skin's translucent glow. Overall, this set of Convention photos features bright, lively tones and clean composition without excessive embellishment. I hope it gives everyone a visually comfortable viewing experience.
