The Cosplay photo sharing edits from the 2026 Nantong Miaoyuan (Miavel) Pool Anime Convention and the July 5th Pengxin Hotel convention are finally organized. We captured a wide variety of styles this time, and today I'm selecting some personal favorite Convention photos to document the experience. As both photographer and post-production retoucher, I personally directed the floor and captured every shot throughout the entire process—pouring immense thought into each set, from early communication and on-site lighting control to final color grading.
The first set was a pool sailor-style look. The biggest challenge of shooting by the pool was the intense natural sunlight combined with crowds of visitors, so I intentionally had the model sit on the edge of the pool, utilizing a light blue transparent swim ring as foreground while using a wide-aperture lens to blur out the background crowd as much as possible. The blue one-piece swimsuit paired with white over-the-knee socks made for a striking visual impact against the blue water surface in this Swimsuit cosplay and Stockings cosplay set. To capture the delicate texture of the stockings, I adjusted the exposure compensation so the white details wouldn't blow out while preserving the glistening ripples on the water. The model performed exceptionally well, nailing both her gaze and posture.
The second set was an indoor look featuring red-and-purple two-toned hair. Shot in an indoor setting, the overall color palette leaned warm. I had the model hold a plush rabbit doll, using cartoon hair clips and bunny ear accessories to create a relaxed, cute atmosphere. During shooting, I experimented with various focal lengths, focusing on bringing out the subject's facial expressions and costume details—especially the ruffle trim on the white cardigan, which had great texture under the warm light. To compensate for the dim indoor light, I bumped the ISO appropriately and leveraged a wide aperture to maintain image clarity and cleanliness.
The third set featured a Chinese-style fantasy outfit. This was shot right on the convention exhibition floor, where the background was complex with numerous booths and light stands. To keep the background from stealing the spotlight, I used an off-camera flash with a softbox to darken the ambient background while filling light on the subject, ensuring the golden trim and cyan fabric on the garment stood out crisply. We tweaked the model's stance and hand gestures several times, ultimately capturing a very natural shot where the gradient color transitions were beautifully preserved.
The fourth set was a creative sheer mesh concept on a pool table. The model wore a gray semi-sheer top and black shorts, reclining sideways on the green billiards table. Using the venue's overhead lighting and side fill lights, I sculpted the subject's bodily contours. The reclining pose effectively elongated leg proportions, and combined with the barefoot look, it projected a languid yet cool aura. I deliberately sought a lower angle to enhance the visual extension of the frame.
The final set was a floral-themed pink-and-yellow gradient dress. We spread a white plush rug on the convention floor, pairing it with a transparent swim ring and floral hairpieces for vibrant, cheerful colors. Leaning into a sweet aesthetic, I had the model try kneeling and relaxed seated postures. Frontal lighting made her skin look bright and translucent, the pink and yellow dress colors rendered accurately on camera, and the color coordination between props and wardrobe was executed seamlessly.
Although running around carrying all the camera gear at the Nantong anime convention was exhausting, seeing the final Convention photos made every bit of effort feel worthwhile.
