Choosing the pool as the backdrop for this shoot was primarily to capture Janus's fresh yet slightly timid aura by the summer water. To faithfully embody the character's disposition, I poured considerable thought into her styling. The massive white sun hat served as the visual centerpiece of the ensemble, which, paired with straight vibrant blue hair, looked remarkably translucent beneath the glistening water reflections. For makeup, I wore icy-blue contact lenses, applied prominent pink blush across the cheeks, and finished with red lips so that my face retained rich saturation even under intense outdoor sunlight.
Shooting in the water was far more challenging than anticipated. Although the pool was crystal clear, the fabric grew heavy once soaked—especially during the in-water takes, where the ruffled top and shorts clung tightly to my body, restricting movement. Even trickier was the wig; the moment it touched water, the strands would float and tangle, forcing me to continually smooth them out by hand while maintaining a natural expression. To portray Janus's hesitation about entering the water on her own, I incorporated subtle nuances into my poses. For instance, while gripping the pool ledge, my fingers pressed down with slight tension and my weight leaned backward, evoking a tentative, hesitant state; while seated, I subtly rounded my shoulders with hands clasped in front, or held onto the edge of a clear swim ring.
During the session, I personally loved the shots taken while seated along the pool edge and on the folding chair. Sunshine happened to cascade down just then, creating breathtaking lighting. Crossing my legs in the chair elongated my leg lines beautifully, accentuating the swimsuit's silhouette and skin texture, while looking down slightly and gently tipping the hat brim conveyed both the leisure of a summer getaway and the character's signature shyness. The wet-look framing in the water also turned out stunning—droplets trickled down the blue hair, and looking toward the lens through mist-speckled glasses captured that exact sense of uncertainty yearning for encouragement.
To capture this set, I soaked in the pool for hours until the soles of my feet ached against the hard floor, and the wig turned into a tangled mess. Yet seeing how the crisp blue palette, white ruffles, and gentle pool ripples harmonized in the final frames made every bit of it worthwhile. I hope this set conveys that cool, cautious, and gentle summer feeling.
