"We always have to look to the distance~" Taking advantage of the weekend, I finally brought out Navia's complete gear for a shoot. Holding this huge vintage-patterned sun umbrella inside the shopping mall certainly drew a lot of heads, and many passersby couldn't help but steal a few extra glances. Heading out in this look isn't just about taking photos; it's more of an immersive recreation of this character's temperament.
Let's talk about the outfit first. What attracted me most about this costume is its color scheme and tailoring. The patchwork of blue, white, and black is highly layered, and the coat section features many diamond-shaped geometric patch decorations, with the gold foil details along the edges being a huge points-adding detail in my opinion. The neckline is a translucent gray knit material patchwork, together with a loop of golden beaded necklace, making it look gorgeous without appearing bulky. The sleeve design on the arms is very unique, featuring translucent black gauze with fine black line textures on top, and the cuffs are finished with white ruffle patchwork paired with blue bows. The sleeves are detached, making them quite convenient to put on and take off, though I needed to watch the range of movement when lifting my arms. For the blue gemstone accessory on the chest, I specially found a water-drop-shaped acrylic with a translucent quality to replace it, giving it a crystal-clear feeling under the sunlight.
The heaviest part of the headgear is definitely this large black-brimmed dress hat. The elements on the hat are incredibly rich, featuring a white metal-textured hollow-out frame inlaid with a blue diamond-shaped gemstone, paired next to a blue fabric rose and a plush white ball. Because the brim is quite wide, I specially reinforced the headband support to prevent it from blocking my face or being blown away by the wind outdoors. The wig consists of light blonde curls, and the bangs were trimmed to be quite layered, nicely framing my face when combined with the wig's inherent hair flow. For the makeup this time, I focused heavily on drawing the inner eyeliner and lower lash line, beautifully accentuating the blue of the colored contacts, making the gaze look more translucent in front of the lens.
The umbrella prop was also a major project. The orange-yellow and brown patterns on the canopy are very vintage, and that thick wave-shaped ruffled edge along the border must have been highly labor-intensive to sew. It is massive when opened up, almost covering my entire body, creating the effect of an excellent backdrop panel and a softbox, functioning brilliantly as either a foreground or background. This time we shot across indoor sets and some bright environments, where the warm tones of the umbrella and the cool tones of the costume formed a highly classic cool-and-warm contrast composition.
Regarding the shooting angles, I particularly love that close-up shot holding the umbrella handle with a slight tilt of my head. That angle perfectly showcases the complex structure of the hat, the exquisite facial makeup, and the details at the chest of the costume all at once, while allowing my gaze to naturally focus on the lens. Since my stature isn't exceptionally tall, the photographer intentionally adopted some slight low-angle and close-up perspectives during composition, making me appear more upright and presence-filled.
Honestly, portraying a high-detail character from Genshin Impact requires double-checking every single bead strand and patch decoration before shooting. Because we spent a long time out on the street, the safety pins and velcro on the costume frequently snagged the gauze material of the sleeves, so I had to constantly mind my walking posture. Fortunately, the final presented photos turned out highly ideal. I feel that the character of Navia possesses both an elegant, magnanimous grace and a touch of a young girl's playful, free-spirited nature, and I attempted to blend these traits into my own facial expressions during the shooting experience.
As a 2D cosplay enthusiast, being able to prepare a shoot so dedicatedly to recreate a beloved game character brings a great sense of accomplishment in itself. Therefore, I'm using this photo and this experience to make a brief log.
