Posting a preview photo shot with my wife's help first, sharing a teaser since it turned out quite nice. Although photographer @Mya-nei hasn't officially retouched the photos yet, looking at the raw shot already feels very atmospheric to me. So I'll share this one first—I don't know how long it will take for the final edits, but I'm looking forward to them as well.
The theme for this shoot is Nazrin cosplay from Touhou Project. This character has always been called the tiny general, or the treasure-hunting little general, searching for treasures everywhere in Gensokyo. Before shooting, I looked up relevant lore materials and fan-made creations. Although this little mouse is small in size, she is also a deified existence serving Bishamonten, an aspect I hope to align with as much as possible through subsequent Cosplay photography and pose design.
Let's talk about some styling details of this Animal ear outfit first. The fluffy texture of the animal ears was truly meticulous, taking quite a bit of time to craft. To make the ears stand upright while blending seamlessly with hair shadow effects, adjusting their positions alone required repeated trial and error. Paired with this short grey wig styled with subtle soft curls, the overall visual feel appears softer. As for that fluffy grey tail, the filling was adjusted multiple times to ensure it looked natural and full while seated.
As for the outfit, the short grey cape and ruffled cuff designs are truly distinctive. White lace details along the cape's edges add depth, while golden stripe accents on the inner white sleeves offer a touch of refined, understated elegance. The multi-layered pleated skirt naturally flares out when seated, creating rich visual depth. To showcase her character trait of searching for treasure everywhere, besides the costume itself, I specially paired a woven rattan basket lined with white fabric to hold a few \"discovered treasures.\" Simple as the prop is, it plays a key role in the entire ensemble.
The shooting environment was chosen on a flagstone path filled with greenery and wildflowers—this natural aesthetic fits the character's innate temperament perfectly. The natural light that day was exceptionally soft without harsh highlights, making shadows and facial illumination appear very natural, causing minimal interference for post-processing color grading. Choosing to sit at the border between the lawn and flagstone path was mainly to convey a sense of taking a brief rest along her journey.
Although what you see now is just a teaser without fine retouching, Mya-nei's composition and light capture already possess a strong sense of atmosphere. My wife was also very patient when pressing the shutter, constantly searching for angles to find a pose that highlights the rattan basket, animal tail, and overall styling nicely. Since it's still a teaser, I'm debating which color direction the final edits should take—whether to lean toward a fresh Japanese aesthetic or retain more vintage texture. I hope everyone likes the finished photos when they come out.
This Nazrin cosplay shooting experience made me realize that different characters require different approaches to portrayal. A small yet slightly mysterious character like Nazrin truly demands more meticulous consideration of her facial expressions and movements. Putting on these carefully prepared garments to interpret a character is always a deeply immersive experience. I hope the retouching process goes smoothly, and I look forward to sharing the complete Treasure hunt main photoset with everyone then.
