This set of photos, done in collaboration with photographer Winter Jiro, features Nazrin from Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object. The grey-silver wavy short wig with highlights, paired with this color-blocked Lolita-style dress and long tail, was a look I had wanted to do for a long time. The shooting location was chosen at an outdoor gravel riverbank, right during the overcast light before dusk arrived. The entire environment presented a deep blue cold tone, setting a very quiet baseline atmosphere for the shoot.

The retro lantern in my hand was the key prop for this shoot. It is an LED light source itself, with concentrated and warm orange light, creating a huge contrast in the low-light outdoor setting. It perfectly and precisely illuminated my facial details and the lace trim on the outfit. For the eye makeup, I chose a clear gold-brown palette with subtle shimmers, which reflects natural highlights under this light source without looking heavy. We actually modified that fluffy blue tail several times, strengthening the internal support structure to stabilize its natural curved arc on the outdoor gravel ground. During the actual shooting, I had to crouch inside the edge of that white basin-like container, holding the lantern to control the angle with one hand while coordinating interactive poses with that long black iron rod. The puff sleeves were extremely wide, so every time I raised my hand or turned my body, I had to rearrange the layers of the sleeves and the shawl to avoid messy fabric edges.

To capture that layer of warm light cast onto my face by the lantern, photographer Winter Jiro spent a long time shooting, practically lying on the ground to find a low camera angle. In the final four selected photos, relying solely on the lantern as the primary light source combined with a large-aperture prime lens to blur the cluttered woods behind, the visual center of focus is entirely locked onto the face and upper body of the character. Under low-light conditions, the skin texture actually looks quite smooth and dewy, and there is no clipping or disconnect in the contrast between warm and cold colors; the consistency of the overall tone is very comforting. The different body postures and lantern heights actually correspond to the character's emotional shifts within that mysterious atmosphere of exploration. I hope my makeup and costume/prop presentation can allow everyone to see a slightly different feeling within this Touhou Project theme for this atmospheric photography project.
