"You've made me angry!"—this voiceline is truly the iconic soul mark attached to Neon. This time at the anime convention venue, carrying this unyielding drive and full energy, I completed the photoshoot for this VALORANT cosplay work.
Let me start by talking about the styling preparation. The wig is the soul of this look—that bright blue double-bun hairstyle with highlights needed fluffy yet crisp layering to embody the character's lightning-fast velocity. Beyond the wig, the band-aid on the forehead and small blue markings on the face were crucial details for character accuracy. As for the costume, the overall palette uses a blue and black color-blocked theme, combined with metallic gold shoulder guards, silver forearm armor, and purple waist paneling, colliding into a strong futuristic tech vibe and athletic techwear style. To improve comfort, the inner layer of the outfit used a breathable mesh material, making running around in the shopping mall during the shoot less stifling. This tight-fitting combat suit demands good body proportions and line definition, so I prepared physically beforehand, hoping to present the unique lightness and power of an athletic character.
The shooting environment that day was quite challenging, with complex lighting and heavy foot traffic in the background. However, we utilized a large open area in the middle of the mall as our primary location. The photographer's lighting was extremely professional, preserving ambient light while using the key light to separate me from the background, making the blue-and-white combat suit texture appear crisp and translucent. For pose design, we referenced various in-game tactical movements of the agent—such as reaching forward in a grabbing pose, folding arms in a battle-ready posture, and fully extending the body in a sprint stance. To capture natural expressions and relaxed body language, we tried many relaxation exercises and feints, ensuring every frozen frame looked like a moment right before casting an ability in-game.
The post-processing was another highlight of this work, and I'm deeply grateful for the photographer and editor's ingenuity. The lightning effects and blue electric light trails surrounding me were not simple overlays; they were generated according to perspective relationships, wrapping closely along my arms and body edges so they didn't feel floaty, creating a realistic physical interaction instead. The panoramic shots with colorful energy ribbons further elevated the sense of speed and tension across the photo set, beautifully echoing the character's unique "bioelectricity" lore. Through this work, I wanted to convey a free and vibrant competitive spirit. What attracts people most to VALORANT is its ever-changing offense-and-defense rhythm, and Neon's design perfectly matches this fast pace and high burst potential.
Personally, completing a high-quality cosplay work is never a solo effort. From finding a tailor for custom costume fitting and pattern adjustments in pre-production, to taming wig frizz, tuning my state on shoot day, and rendering visual effects in post-processing—every step requires dedicated crafting. Although convention photos sessions at crowded events are bustling, being able to wear a carefully prepared character outfit and meet fellow fans offers an atmosphere beyond anything on a screen. I personally love the current presentation of these convention photos; it retains an athletic and anime foundation while infusing a authentic performance feel. In future convention activities, I'll challenge more characters with different attributes, experimenting with varied poses and lighting styles to dig out each character's unique charm, hoping every set of convention photos brings something fresh to the audience.
