[Female Rover cosplay] Wuthering Waves Protagonist at the China International Comics Festival Booth

This photoshoot at the 2025 China International Comics Festival (CICF) booth featured Female Rover from Wuthering Waves, and I'm sharing the on-site convention photography process along with styling details.

The accuracy of this costume relies heavily on the accessories. The black halter tight-fitting top paired with an asymmetrical skirt, the black leather straps across the chest and arms, and the small gray waist pouch all took considerable time to position properly. Because the lower half features a leg-revealing cut, the combination of the thigh ring, black Stockings, and tall boots required special attention to proportion; cinching them slightly tighter makes the leg lines look more slender and better fits the character's combat-ready presence.

For makeup, I deliberately chose yellow contact lenses to match the character's eye color. The straight black bangs, the two clips on the forehead, the tassels beside the ears, and the bow bun on top are all iconic details with high character recognizability. Using a Sony A7C2 paired with a 28-200mm lens this time, the lighting on the expo floor was fairly complex; direct harsh light easily causes heavy facial shadows, so during the shoot, we often looked for shaded areas or utilized the colorful background lights inherent to the convention. The 28mm end captured the expansive booth environment, while the 200mm end allowed us to zoom in for waist-up close-ups amidst the crowded venue, avoiding cluttered passersby.

The prop was a blue long blade with considerable weight. Striking an aesthetically pleasing one-handed sword stance took numerous attempts on-site, as holding it with one hand for too long quickly led to arm soreness and shaking, requiring intermittent breaks. With many attendees at the venue, I had the chance to meet friends who love the character; exchanging thoughts on her movement designs provided lots of inspiration for subsequent poses. The booth backdrop featured a warm orange smoky ambiance and cool white walls. The extensive warm light formed a wonderful visual contrast with the cooler-toned black and gray of the outfit, so very little color grading was done in post-processing to preserve the authentic raw texture as much as possible.

When portraying characters with demanding body proportions, the hardest part is maintaining an upright core without slouching the shoulders, which can easily make you look sluggish. The costume's fabric is a smooth material with a subtle sheen, translating into remarkable texture in on-site photos. Because the outfit is relatively form-fitting, extensive internal fastenings were made to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions. The yellow tassel decoration at the waist sways naturally when walking, yielding fantastic dynamic snapshots. In this shoot, the garment's tailoring faithfully recreated the character's sleekness and coolness, though it also tested my expressive performance on-site.

Although the convention was crowded, photos taken in such an environment conversely offer a lively, immersive atmosphere. For example, in the hall's walkways, using blurred crowds and warm red pillars in the background enhanced the character's aura. The flexibility of this camera and lens setup provided immense convenience for convention photography; however, keeping the frame clean often required waiting patiently for passersby to clear. Wrapping up this Wuthering Waves Female Rover cosplay booth shoot went smoothly, giving me a deeper feel for channeling her personality, and the entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable.
