[Patchouli cosplay] Library Witch of Touhou Project: The Witch of Cherry Blossom Blizzard and Intellectual Eyes

This set of Convention photos for Patchouli is finally organized! Shot at a large anime convention, the steel structure overhead and dense spotlights formed a unique industrial backdrop, creating a wonderful chemical reaction with the grand yet mysterious atmosphere of the Touhou Project series.

The core anchor of this look is the theme "The Witch of Cherry Blossom Blizzard", with every detail leaning toward an intellectual direction. The long purple straight wig used a material with very natural luster so it doesn't look artificial, paired with a white bonnet layered in lace ruffles that frames the face while covering parts of the hair to look lighter. The most eye-catching accessory is this frameless chain glasses pair, which greatly increases character recognizability and beautifully highlights that aura of someone immersed in a library studying magic year-round.

There are many details on the costume. The overall color tone features soft taro purple and lotus-root pink with low saturation, visually soft and comfortable. Cuffs, collars, and skirt hem utilize extensive lace gathers, while the inside of the wide sleeves features light blue lining for subtle layering when moving. Matching bows adorn the arms and collar to maintain overall refinement.

Convention foot traffic on the shoot day was massive, making it tough to find focus in a noisy environment. Fortunately, photographer Li Li Li captured moments decisively, blurring the background corridors and passersby with shallow depth of field to keep focus on the main subject. I especially love the two compositions of adjusting my glasses and sitting on the floor holding a book—the former captures an intense "thinking" concentration, while the latter utilizes leg line depth paired with a casual seated pose and platform plush slippers, adding a touch of everyday laziness under a witch persona.

Speaking of shoes, I specifically chose pink plush slippers for this ensemble. Many fellow fans might feel slippers contrast with the noble character setting, but after walking around a convention all day, foot comfort is top priority. Besides, platform slippers with fluffy texture paired with the Lace dress and tulle unexpectedly create a gap moe.

The lighting distribution was also considered during the shoot. Overhead hall lights are hard to control and easily cast facial shadows, but the photographer used fill light to render facial features crisply while preserving eye highlights.

For props, a dark leather hardbound book was chosen, embossed with gold decorative lines and rune-like patterns. While holding it, I intentionally adjusted finger placement to look like a casually opened page or a ritualistic secret tome. To suit the lightweight demands of Convention photos, the book interior was hollowed out so holding it wasn't exhausting, yet its photo texture completely passed for real.

Extra care went into wearing the wig and bonnet. Since soft bonnets easily flatten the crown of the head, I added padding when securing the wig to keep the head shape looking full. Makeup used a clear matte texture paired with light eyeshadow and pink-orange lip gloss, being harmonious with the light purple wig without stealing the show.

The Touhou Project series offers rich characters to interpret. As Scarlet Devil Mansion's library manager, Patchouli Knowledge's core traits are intellect, composure, and passion for occultism. Incorporating "The Witch of Cherry Blossom Blizzard" styling concept this time hopes to offer a visual experience distinct from Patchouli's standard casual versions. Convention photos are themselves a secondary creation based on character interpretation; beyond recreating outfits and props, capturing expressions and gestures is equally vital. I hope this look lets everyone feel that quiet yet surging charm belonging to Gensokyo in the Touhou series.
