Putting on this outfit of Blanc from Goddess of Victory: Nikke, the slim-fit black-and-white jacket combined with the gold inner patterns creates a very sharp overall visual effect. During the shoot, we specifically chose a relatively open area inside the large exhibition hall of the convention. The floor was made of a highly reflective material, which, combined with several spotlights from above, provided a great ambient light foundation for this set of photos. This time, the Sony a7c2 paired with the 35 1.4 GM lens was chosen as the main setup. The 35mm focal length is perfect for shooting convention photos that incorporate environmental elements, as it can outline the geometric structure and industrial-style background of the venue while beautifully highlighting the character's figure and costume details.
In terms of posing guidance, we tried multiple sets of movements. While sitting, that white plush blanket served as both a prop and added a touch of softness to the overall dark style. The drape of the long sleeves and the lines of the skirt created a serene atmosphere in the frame. The candid shots of standing up focused more on showcasing the flowing nature of the costume. The black-and-gold jacket naturally flared up with the movement, and combined with the exquisite Japanese-style belt buckle and hanging tassels, it instantly elevated the storytelling feel of the image. The bokeh transition of the 35mm lens at a large aperture is soft and smooth; the interlaced, mottled light and shadow in the background did not overshadow the subject, allowing the cool and proud aura of Blanc to be completely released. Additionally, the fluffiness and layering of the wig itself made the dragon horn styling on top of the head look very natural without any sense of abruptness. The classic design of the red-bottomed high heels gleamed under the light, and the texture of the black stockings also served as an excellent transition in the overall outfit, blending the character's capability and elegance together.
The lighting at the convention changed quite a bit throughout the day, but in this indoor space with a high ceiling, making good use of the light spots under each location allowed us to capture a feeling completely different from outdoor or studio shoots. The overall shooting process was very smooth, and the photographer was highly perceptive in capturing the light. Especially at the moment of capturing the motion, the focus was firmly locked on the face, giving the final photos a high level of usability. This kind of anime-style photography work, which is both free and full of a sense of presence, perfectly matches the unique temperament that Blanc brings to people.
