[Patchouli cosplay] Touhou Project: The Unmoving Great Library in the Heat, Strolling through the Anime Convention

Slipping into this Patchouli costume, the very first sensation was sheer heaviness. With soaring temperatures on the day of the convention, the layered lace, structured petticoat, and vintage shawl of this Lolita fashion dress felt like a miniature furnace—a literal embodiment of 'The Unmoving Great Library': genuinely not wanting to move an inch. We staged this shoot in front of indoor glass curtain walls; the photographer Amamiya deliberately harnessed this backlit soft-focus effect to bypass the blinding glare outside while infusing the entire set with a hazy, dreamlike aesthetic.

The core props for this shoot were an antique red suitcase and a heavy tome. The suitcase had wonderful texture, visually harmonizing with the purple hair, purple bonnet, and the pastel pink-purple stripes on the skirt hem as a cohesive Purple style outfit. Styling the purple wig took considerable effort; to complement the braided accents and straight bangs, I used setting spray to lock the strands in place. For makeup, purple contact lenses paired with soft pink lip color helped capture the character's quiet, scholarly, and subtly languid demeanor.

Posing required meticulous care to balance the layered depth of the dress while holding the suitcase securely. One full-body shot featured the skirt billowing with one foot slightly raised, perfectly highlighting the dress layers along with shoe and sock details; it took several takes to capture that natural momentum. The dress utilized a classic bell-shaped super-puffy petticoat—hot to wear, but essential for supporting the voluminous flare and recreating that doll-like silhouette. The silk flowers and faux pearls on the bonnet were hand-stitched with intricate detail.

Throughout this Anime convention cosplay session, I strived to express an unshakeable, serene composure, experimenting with various angles while holding the book, and the final results were deeply satisfying. Choosing to shoot in front of bright indoor glass windows compensated for the chaotic convention hall clutter, while post-processing unified the purple color grading and preserved translucent backlit glow. It was a relaxed shoot that captured my state with this Touhou Project costume on a sweltering weekend.
