[Houraisan Kaguya cosplay] Japanese-Style Moments of the Lunar Maiden

This Houraisan Kaguya look carries an incredible ambiance under warm lighting, and a great deal of detailed preparation went into recreating that classical yet cool, aloof presence during the shoot. The outfit features a pink sheer top paired with a wine-red satin maxi skirt; the satin catches light beautifully, and the intricate gold bamboo leaves and floral embroidery along the skirt add great richness, serving as a primary reason for the opulent visual aesthetic. The neckline incorporates layered lace trim and bow accents, a design that flatters the neck silhouette while lending a gentle softness to the overall body lines. To coordinate with the photographer's lighting setup, the spread of the skirt hem was adjusted repeatedly to drape naturally across the tatami and wooden veranda, creating expansive visual impact.

For props, I selected a woven bamboo lantern, a pink folding fan, and branches strung with colorful beads. These paired seamlessly with wooden shoji doors and warm yellow standing lanterns, instantly taking the Japanese-style photography aesthetic to the next level. The bamboo lantern especially carried an authentic, traditional feel in hand, serving as a natural visual anchor. We moved between the engawa veranda and indoor rooms, where timber architecture, garden greenery, and gravel paths created a cohesive mood. The photographer tested various angles, including wide-angle views and overhead shots. The pose in Photo 2 holding the folding fan is centered cleanly, with balanced facial illumination and crisp neckline definition, making it an easy choice for the cover. Later shots featured holding a handheld gaming console—originally intended as a playful contrast—which turned out surprisingly lively, breaking up the otherwise aloof, formal tone.

There were challenges along the way, such as moving around in such a voluminous skirt and having to rediscover my center of balance for every seated or standing shot. Facial expressions and the gaze required disciplined control—kept soft rather than sharp to evoke a calm, timeless serenity. Reviewing the raw frames after wrapping—whether holding the lantern on the wooden porch or raising the flowering branch beside the table—each pose and expression blended effortlessly into the set. Immersing in this Japanese-style setting was truly rewarding; meticulously styled Anime-style fashion, thoughtful props, and thorough pre-production planning are undeniably the secrets to a stellar photoshoot.
