For this convention photo, I specially prepared a gold-lettered scroll reading \"Give Me 100,000\". Holding it directly in hand, without saying a word, you can instantly feel Reimu Hakurei's intense aura regarding her obsession with the donation box. As a classic character in Touhou Project, Reimu's red-and-white miko dress is iconic, but this time retro Lolita details were subtly infused into the outfit—a deep red base with extensive lace trimmings and ribbons, adding a touch of elegance to the overall look. Paired with a massive hat ornament, classic long straight black hair, and red contact lenses, the visual goal was to maximize fidelity to her image as Gensokyo's shrine maiden.
The venue was quite crowded on the shooting day, typical of a standard anime convention environment. For this shot, a blurred background was deliberately chosen to filter out surrounding crowds and clutter, making the character naturally become the visual focus. Photographer \"漓漓漓\" captured the angle with great precision, preserving the completeness of the scroll while clearly capturing the lace texture and fabric luster of the costume. During shooting, we deliberated over prop positioning for a long time—aiming for the text to face the lens directly without looking overly stiff, trying flat holds and slight tilts before settling on this pose. Gold scroll rods were chosen for the top and bottom ends, echoing the gold text on red fabric to strengthen visual cohesion.
Speaking of props, the \"Give Me 100,000\" meme is something everyone in the community loves. Although Reimu appears nonchalant on the surface, her obsession with money is practically etched into her bones, and the number 100,000 itself carries strong visual impact. Holding this prop at an anime convention easily brings a knowing smile to fellow fans, serving as interactive cosplay fun. To deliver optimal texture, the scroll was made from stiffer fabric with subtle patterned borders, preventing wrinkles while standing crisp on camera. Compared to flat printed paper, holding a real physical prop adds weight and better expresses character traits.
Regarding hair and makeup, focus was placed on coordinating eye makeup with red contacts. Red pupils are Reimu's prominent feature; wearing them naturally while blending into the overall atmosphere took work on eyeliner and shading. Base makeup aimed for clean clarity, paired with long straight bangs to recreate that 2D cool aura. The wig was meticulously styled the night before using matte material that carries a healthy luster without looking greasy under flashlights. The outfit is actually quite thick due to layered lace and a heavy skirt hem—manageable indoors, but muggy under outdoor sun; yet for character accuracy, these details are well worth the effort.
I believe the charm of cosplay lies not just in superficial likeness, but in capturing the character's inner spirit. As the protagonist of Touhou Project, Reimu possesses powerful strength paired with a paradoxical blend of laziness, greed, yet ultimate reliability. This photo freezes her serious, direct side, nailing the \"gimme money\" vibe completely. Afterward, the photographer and I reviewed several other poses—some leaning cool, others cute—but when filtering choices, holding the scroll while looking straight into the lens offered the strongest visual tension. Timing was also crucial; we snapped the shutter right during a brief gap when crowds thinned, keeping the composition clean and crisp.
Sharing convention photos always involves unexpected situations, like uneven lighting or passersby stepping into frame. But as a cosplayer, bringing a beloved character to life offline and sharing one's hard work with fellow enthusiasts brings immense satisfaction. Organizing hair, makeup, and props before and after, as well as collaborating with the photographer on angles and lighting, offers a professional on-site teamwork experience. When final photos came out, prop proportions, hat shading, and natural skirt drape all perfectly matched my original intention for this cosplay. I hope this heart-filled portrayal and fun prop concept bring everyone a faithful experience, recording a unique memory of ACG culture.
