Shoot diary 2026.7.1: teamed up with my photographer to shoot this Zenless Zone Zero Sunna cosplay set. The outfit is packed with fine nuances, following the canon colorway to channel that signature dark-sweet aesthetic. The mint-green wig required careful pre-shoot styling into bouncy, voluminous waves; to tame flyaways, I treated it with conditioning oil the night before, waking up early on shoot day to finalize the contours before pinning on the black ribbon clips and rectangular hair barrettes.
Regarding the wardrobe, the ruffled white short-sleeve shirt is accented at the collar by a red necktie printed with white graphics. The lower silhouette features a glossy black multi-tiered flared mini puff skirt, cinched at the waist with a white leather belt bearing a hanging blue-and-yellow plush bird charm. Both my arms and legs don pink-and-white striped knit sleeves and pink thigh-high socks; the thigh is wrapped with a buckled white strap, while the ankle features black strap detailing tied with a teal ribbon bow. To stay faithful to the persona, I paid close attention to every accent, including the black choker around the neck and delicate trinkets along the shirt collar.
The set was an all-pink kitchen studio featuring a pink-and-white checkered floor, pastel pink-and-blue cabinetry, and countertops adorned with toasters, a pink oven, macaron-hued teacups, and strawberry cake props. Posing took deliberate planning to harmonize with this playful set. The first frame adopted a standing posture, forming a heart gesture over my chest with hands while maintaining a cheeky, subtly languid gaze. In the second frame, I sat atop the kitchen counter with my right leg bent resting on the surface and my left leg dangling naturally—leaning gently backward with one hand bracing the counter and the other lifted near my temple. This pose heavily tested core stability to hold balance while keeping facial composure sharp and locking an unyielding gaze straight into the lens.
As a cosplayer, projecting the authentic spirit of a character before the camera is paramount. Sunna's disposition blends cheeky playfulness with a hint of enigmatic mystique; leaning into the 'delusional angel' concept, I refined my expressions—moving away from constant sugary smiles to inject subtle detachment and cool confidence at select angles. The photographer offered stellar framing advice, utilizing countertop diagonal lines to guide perspective while using a wide aperture to melt background kitchen props into soft bokeh so the subject popped cleanly. For lighting, a diffused softbox served as the key light complemented by ambient fill, ensuring neither skin tones nor garment colors suffered from color casts under the vibrant pink surroundings.
From trial test frames to the final wrap, this session took roughly three hours. Navigating dynamic postures in a multi-layered puff skirt within a compact space was physically taxing, but seeing the final frames made every bit of effort deeply worthwhile. Translating a 2D character into the real world is an intoxicating creative journey—it is not merely visual mimicry, but stepping into the physical presence and heartbeat of the character. Today's series came together seamlessly, and I hope everyone loves the result.
