[Sunna cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Summer Beach Swimsuit Shoot Log

We constructed a Summer beach set right inside the studio this time, primarily to shoot this Swimsuit cosplay look for Sunna from Zenless Zone Zero. When I first received the costume, the pink one-piece swimsuit struck me as exceptionally adorable, adorned with a variety of vibrant cartoon prints. Paired with pink-and-white striped arm sleeves and over-the-knee White stockings, the overall visual impression was wonderfully vibrant and lively. The wig is a pale mint green; to faithfully embody the character, I meticulously trimmed the fringe and twintails, accessorizing them with various small hair clips—such as the black kitty clip and purple rectangular barrette—subtle touches that significantly elevated the ensemble's overall refinement. The makeup took considerable effort as well; because the character's eye color is so distinctive, I selected vivid green contact lenses. Deepening the pink tones across the eyeshadow and blush helped cultivate that signature vibrant 2D anime charm.

Since we were shooting directly on sand, the White stockings and my feet could easily pick up stray grains, requiring every movement to be gentle and deliberate to keep the garments and hosiery pristine. The studio setup was meticulously prepared, blanketed with artificial sand and furnished with props like a beach lounger, a cooler box, inflatable beach balls, and a yellow rubber duck. To engage naturally with the setting, I explored varied stances, such as sitting atop the cooler or kneeling slightly on the lounger. Moving across the sand in White stockings is truly a test of caution, as snagging or staining the fabric happens so easily. The lighting was dialed in generously, with warm-toned illumination bathing the entire frame in a sun-drenched summer glow. While the cut accentuates feminine curves, it was surprisingly comfortable and allowed fluid movement. Between takes, the photographer and I exchanged ideas on posing and composition, striving to channel that balanced blend of cheeky playfulness and subtle sensuality. Compared to outdoor locations, studio shooting offers precise lighting control without worrying about unpredictable weather changes.

For posing, I drew heavy inspiration from classic anime illustrations. For instance, when leaning into a clear inflatable ball within a confined space, curling the body naturally while maintaining a relaxed facial expression and keeping the leg contours extended was key. Lounging on the beach chair, I shifted my center of gravity back, letting one leg drape down while bending the other to flatter the lines of the White stockings. To inject lively dynamism into the frames, I engaged with props like the yellow rubber duck and beach volleyballs; interacting with props integrates the character organically into the environment instead of feeling like stiff, posed snapshots. The studio ran quite warm that day under the constant heat of the lights, and wearing long arm sleeves and thigh-high socks worked up a sweat, but seeing the frames pop on the monitor made every ounce of effort worthwhile.

As a cosplayer, every character transformation feels like an entirely fresh journey—not just altering one's physical appearance, but immersing oneself into the character's emotions and psychological headspace within that specific environment. Although Sunna's swimsuit look is just one of her many outfits, the Summer beach theme provided ample room for creative expression, showcasing a relaxed, breezy charm distinct from her everyday combat readiness. Looking at materials and finishing, the pink fabric offered great elasticity and crisp printing that didn't warp under tension, while the striped sleeves fit snugly without slipping down—both essential anchors for a flawless silhouette. The entire shoot went smoothly, with props and staging fully aligned, bringing our envisioned summer seaside ambiance to life.
