[Chisa Cosplay] Freezing the Glamour and Vitality of Wuthering Waves in a White Studio

This white studio photography attempt aims to present Chisa's two distinct temperaments simultaneously. On one hand, it's the combat posture holding that red ring-shaped greatsword; on the other hand, it's the daily casual feel paired with this navy sailor-collar jacket and black over-knee socks.

Before the shoot, when communicating with photographer saku, we set a clean and crisp studio photography tone. Without needing complex scenes, the pure white background perfectly emphasizes the character's styling details and the high-saturation color scheme. The greatsword among the props is massive, especially the red-and-black color-blocked blade and the gold trim details at the ring guard, which are exceptionally conspicuous in the white reflective fabric environment, producing highly crisp edge contours. When actually holding it up to pose, in order to look natural within the static dynamics, the exertion of the wrists and shoulders needed deliberate angle adjustments.

Regarding the clothing, I chose to wear the sailor-collar jacket open, with the inner top echoing the red bow tie, which both exposes the waist section without throwing the upper-to-lower body proportions out of balance. Some straps and snap buttons at the jacket cuffs gave the styling a lot of room to play. The black over-knee socks and brown loafers are highly important assists to restore the everyday feel; lowering the shooting angle slightly can beautifully elongate the leg lines, falling into a rather classic outfit formula.

For the makeup and hair, long straight black hair combined with the red ribbons on both sides are signature characteristics of this character, and the red contacts make the gaze look sharper. When shooting that dynamic jumping pose, the flying movement of the hair and the drifting garment hem gave the frame several degrees of vitality, instead of just remaining as a staged pose holding a weapon. The shadowless environment of the white studio sets high demands on the base makeup; because the lighting is highly uniform, any slight flaw will be magnified. Fortunately, the base makeup was quite submissive this time, making the focused parts of the gaze stand out more.

We tried a few different poses this time: holding the sword horizontally in a standing posture focused heavily on building up the aura, with the legs slightly spread to make the center of gravity more stable; the half-kneeling posture brought the greatsword close to the side of the face, adjusting to a highly secure angle; the group sitting on the floor and on the transparent acrylic chair put the focus on an everyday and lazy atmosphere, paired with the small schoolbag on hand as a prop to add some life-like fun to the overall character besides combat.

The advantage of white studio photography lies in unified lighting, so post-processing doesn't require much extra color grading. The raw cuts already excellently expressed the fabric texture of the navy jacket and the reflection of the black stockings. Finally, when organizing the final cuts, I found that the dynamic snapshot was actually the one with the most full emotion in the entire photo set; it not only recorded one side of the character but also preserved the state of the coser immersing into the character within the studio. Going through the entire workflow, from makeup and styling to prop preparation, and then cooperating with the photographer to adjust lighting and movements, every segment achieved the expected results, displaying highly clear styling details of the character against the clean background.
