Bringing Hsin's official illustration from Wuthering Waves to life took immense dedication from early prep to the formal shoot. The white hair, fox ears, and red, black, and white color palette in the original art are iconic. To strike that delicate balance between weightless fluidity and rich presence, styling the wig and massive fox tail alone took several days of meticulous sculpting. I studied the golden hardware and jacquard patterns closely, ensuring the blue-red gemstone pendant on the chest and the frog-button tassels at the waist stayed completely faithful to the original concept. For makeup, I accentuated the eyes with red and gold shadows and precise outer-corner detailing, pairing them with dark colored contacts to give the gaze a divine, transcendent presence.
On the day of the shoot, I brought a crimson oil-paper umbrella. In a set dressed with moonlight and fireworks backdrops, we used a wind machine to give the flowing locks and oversized tail dynamic movement. Recreating the official illustration's seated posture was especially demanding—finding an angle that elongated the leg lines while keeping the upper body relaxed and poised in stilettos required endless micro-adjustments. My hands also had to coordinate with the levitating golden ring talisman in the frame, holding casting gestures suspended in mid-air. It put my core stability to the test, leaving my arms, waist, and back sore the next day.
During post-production, drawing inspiration from the original artwork's fantasy ambiance, we layered golden halos and flame special effects, weaving in red maples and floating pavilion elements. The illustrated feel in Photo 1 is the combined result of lighting and post-processing, seeking an equilibrium between real-world practical sets and 2D character art. Seeing the final deliverables capture both the agile grace of a fox-type cosplay and the imposing majesty of the Sentinels made every ounce of exhaustion worthwhile. The chromatic grading and layering of scenic elements all served to mirror that opulent, mysteriously commanding aura unique to the official art.
