[Chisa cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Giving My All Upon the Ruins

The finished set for this Chisa cosplay has finally arrived! To capture her distinctive presence in Wuthering Waves, I began preparing this ensemble well in advance. The outfit boasts rich layers: a well-tailored long grey coat draped over a dark sailor suit with a red necktie, paired with a classic pleated skirt underneath. To enrich the character's visual depth, I deliberately wore black over-the-knee stockings paired with black leather shoes; this clash between collegiate uniform and post-apocalyptic wasteland aesthetic was what drew me to the look most. Trimming and setting the wig also demanded attention—while straight black hair with blunt bangs may appear simple, achieving the right sheen and voluminous drape required meticulous care.

The shooting day was far more exhausting than expected. With the character's sci-fi combat nature, the movements were quite dynamic. For that mid-air leap in the photo, we rehearsed on the ground numerous times before snapping the most natural airborne moment. While suspended in mid-air, I had to keep my facial expression composed, maintain the flowing grace of the long hair, and ensure my leg positions aligned naturally with physical momentum. The massive glowing weapon was an essential highlight: its luminous blade structure and circular crossguard are exquisitely detailed, and while it felt quite heavy in hand, I kept adjusting my grip and balance points for the camera. Gripping the hilt with my left hand while guiding the red energy threads with my right required a laser-focused gaze to genuinely convey that sense of commanding power.

In post-processing light and shadow, we strived to preserve the practical lighting effects used on set. To build that sci-fi tension of red lasers cutting through the ruins, abundant red and pink light sources were cast across the scene, lending richer depth to garment shadows and skin tones. Balancing the contrast between cool and warm tones took considerable time; weaving red beams through crumbling walls and debris was designed to infuse the frame with gripping tension. From prepping the costume and assembling props to choreographing poses and syncing lights, every single phase was polished with our utmost effort. I've always believed that cosplay is not merely donning a costume for photos, but understanding and embodying the character's psychological state in that frozen moment. Bringing Chisa to life within these ruins that I love was a thrilling and fulfilling creative journey.
