For this Hayase Yuuka cosplay shoot, the overall approach went for a clean and sharp sci-fi campus style. The wig chosen was a cool-toned violet with exceptionally smooth strands; once tied into high twintails and paired with the halo overhead, it immediately achieved high character recognizability. The costume is a black-and-white color-blocked uniform jacket—the blue plaid sleeves being the soul of the outfit—accented by a bright blue necktie and a metallic belt buckle with rich details. The gloves and black boots were also matched perfectly, with the black leather gloves offering great tactile grip when holding props.
Two core props were prepared for the shoot: a sci-fi firearm and a laptop. The firearm props cosplay was mainly used to emphasize combat mode; dynamic poses like leaping while holding the weapon and aiming sideways required a tight core to keep movements sharp while ensuring the muzzle did not block the face. The laptop prop was used to depict her everyday life as a hacker and calculator; sitting postures, resting her chin on her hand, and one-handed typing tested subtle expressions more, demanding a gaze that communicated focused concentration without losing a sense of ease.
The makeup artist, Maomao, was especially attentive this time, ensuring the eyeshadow and lip colors resonated with the character's purple-blue tones while preserving a translucent, lightweight skin texture. Post-processing color grading focused on a light blue and white background, where high-key lighting made the skin tone cleaner and allowed the purple hair to pop. Multiple camera angles were explored during the shoot, including both high and low angles, utilizing wide-angle perspective distortion to amplify the firearm's visual impact and close-ups of the hands.
The tailored cut of this outfit is quite flattering, especially the layered pairing of the pleated skirt and jacket, which naturally highlighted leg lines during crouches or when lifting one foot off the ground, achieving a visual balance of coolness and girlish charm. In using the props, close attention was paid to the firearm grip and the tilt angle of the laptop to avoid obscuring the face. The team worked with great synergy, wrapping up the session in about three hours. This refreshing sci-fi campus style is truly ideal for bright studio shoots, and I look forward to exploring more similar themes in the future.
