[Hei Xiazi cosplay] Master Hei from The Grave Robbers' Chronicles, Carrying a Powerful Aura

This set of Hei Xiazi cosplay photoshoot photos is finally organized. From indoor studio shoots to outdoor night scenes, it took almost a whole day. Personally, I am most satisfied with the afternoon indoor photos, especially sitting in front of the woven rattan chair and red table, where the lighting and props matched the vibe perfectly. For this character, outfit texture often determines half the fidelity. The black-and-white leopard print short-sleeved shirt paired with a white T-shirt undershirt layering created great depth. The lower half featured relaxed black loose wide-leg pants combined with platform shoes, creating a casual and untamed street style visually.

Details were mainly supported by accessories. The long silver pendant necklace on my neck and the pants chain at the waist helped neutralize part of the complex pattern of the shirt, making the overall image sharper. Then there were the sunglasses—the soul finishing touch of this character. Paired with dark lenses and messy long hair wig, that "I don't care" attitude came right out. In the indoor scene with dark green walls and a red table, the red-green color clash was very eye-catching, making every photo feel like it had a vintage film texture. During the actual shoot, to capture the expression, photographer Mengmeng suggested slowing down my movement frequency, not forcing poses, but rather checking messages on my phone casually or resting both hands on the table lost in thought, which made that cold vibe much more natural.

We went out for a night shoot later; the set holding a transparent umbrella was a pleasant surprise. Since the roads were slightly wet at night, the transparent umbrella reflected neon lights from nearby shops, casting light and shadow onto the clothes and face, making the ambiance much richer than the daytime studio shoot. The two photos eating ice cream and holding a small hip flask taking selfies in the mirror were casually grabbed during breaks. Looking back, I found them quite fun—after all, walking down the street in this hairstyle and outfit while taking a selfie with ice cream certainly created a gap-moe contrast, but that's also part of the character's relaxed personality.

The part that required the most effort throughout the shoot was actually hair and makeup. Grooming the black wig needed to look natural rather than too tidy; slightly messy strands fit Master Hei's contrasting persona—someone who frequents tomb-raiding and carries travel weariness yet remains particular about his attire. Moreover, because the shirt was breathable short sleeves, the texture came through clearly under alternating indoor and outdoor lighting. Xiaohe Dangao handled post-processing with great restraint, avoiding over-beautification to preserve natural skin texture and light transitions while carefully refining reflections in night scenes.

Having done cosplay for many years, I've rarely attempted characters combining a wild street-style vibe with a pragmatic underworld touch. Successfully taking on this challenge broadened my expression dimensions a bit. As long as you grasp the character's core personality, without forcing imitation, portraying that calm and unhurried aura ensures the overall direction of the final shots won't stray. The indoor woven rattan furniture and green walls even became unexpected bonuses; this blend of retro and modern casual style suited the character well. Hei Xiazi is inherently an easygoing and effortless figure in the original work, so during shooting, I tried my best to immerse myself in this comfortable, lazy rhythm.

The emotional tone of this set was very coherent throughout. From being bare-faced in the morning to applying makeup and changing into the outfit, every state was faithfully recorded by the lens. Money well spent, efforts fully delivered—this photo set truly made all our hard work finding angles, adjusting lights, and experimenting on location worthwhile. Great photos really require great partners; the photographer's communication skills and timing for candid shots were crucial. This collaboration was exceptionally smooth without any stiff posing. Post-processing was also fast, with color schemes and typography taking a minimalist approach to avoid distracting from the main subject.

This Hei Xiazi cosplay journey was a thoroughly joyful experience. Shooting two full scenes in one go provided distinct textures between indoor and outdoor, keeping it from feeling dull at all. If I were just going out shopping normally, I probably wouldn't try this leopard print and black pants combination; but in the world of cosplay, putting on this outfit allows an instant switch into another personality, which is precisely the charm of this hobby.
