The photos from this Firefly ACG Expo have finally been sorted out, perfectly coinciding with Blue Archive's 1st Anniversary. Bringing this Hoshino cosplay and Yume-senpai Duo cosplay project to life, I hoped to capture that unique slice-of-life atmosphere imbued with a special emotional depth.
Preparing for this ensemble took considerable pre-shoot effort. For the wardrobe, I readjusted the lapel width of the white shirt and the pleats on the cuffs, pairing it with a character-accurate sky-blue tie that looks exceptionally crisp against the white backdrop. I replaced the suspenders and tactical harnesses with stiff, premium leather and tested the metal buckle adjustments repeatedly to eliminate any slack, ensuring a sharp, snug silhouette during dynamic movements. The black fingerless tactical gloves were specially selected with anti-slip grip, making holding the prop rifle completely secure without slipping.
Headwear and wig styling were equally massive undertakings. For Hoshino's pink halo, I used a custom magnetic mount so angles could be adjusted easily during shooting. To achieve a voluminous, layered look, the wig's crown was padded with an internal base to prevent it from looking flat, while the tips were treated under low heat to prevent frizzing. Because the crowd was huge at the convention, we took extra care to protect these delicate pieces. For makeup, I chose a matte foundation base to prevent harsh glare or shininess under flashes; the eye makeup followed the character design with soft, enlarged contours and ample negative space to make the gaze appear crystal clear.
The focal point of this shoot rested on the delicate interactions between the two characters. Candid moments like holding hands, straightening a tie, or gently resting a hand on a shoulder were captured organically on-site. Having rehearsed beforehand with my partner, we understood the exact tempo and gentleness needed when closing our eyes or resting the back of a hand against the neck to evoke that melancholy, tender feeling of "if this were all just a dream." The photographer was masterful at finding angles—such as the low-angle shot chosen as the cover, which beautifully preserved our spatial proportions, fabric reflections, and nuanced expressions in this Cosplay photography.
The location was a relatively quiet gray-walled corner of the expo hall. Flanked by a glass curtain wall and marble floor reflections, it unexpectedly endowed the entire frame with a tranquil atmosphere. Post-production avoided heavy color grading, opting instead for a slight contrast boost with a subtle soft-glow effect, ensuring the fine details of the uniforms and props remained visible without feeling muted. Meeting a partner at a convention who is so willing to coordinate such delicate, emotionally resonant poses is truly fortunate. The 1st Anniversary milestone holds special meaning for me, and I hope the details in this Duo cosplay showcase our heartfelt dedication to Blue Archive.
