This gear set for Ye Shunguang is truly packed with details. From the white hair and red eyes makeup look to that iconic large tail, plus the custom wave-patterned longsword and the red-bottomed heels, every single piece worked beautifully during the shoot. For this shoot, we specially chose a ruined industrial architectural structure as the venue. The reinforced concrete background, dripping with industrial vibes, forms a perfect contrast with the character's white outfit, red ribbons, and fluffy textures. The pose in the first photo, stepping on a stone block and raising the sword, was actually tried out by chance during the on-site light metering. I didn't expect the support point to be surprisingly stable, making it the exact moment where my gaze was most focused and my aura was perfectly captured.
Outdoor cosplay photography definitely encounters more variables than an indoor studio shoot. For instance, the wind blowing across the site from time to time would make the wig and tail flutter, but sometimes this interference actually allows us to capture a natural and dynamic state. Since the character design incorporates fox elements, I specifically did my homework on the leg makeup and prop details, hoping to express that crisp, heroic, and agile feeling unique to the East. Holding the prop sword requires balancing the perspective and angles so that it doesn't look too clunky, a detail where you can probably see the traces of practice in several of the close-ups. Overall, it was a quite tightly paced creative process. From the lighting setup to adjusting poses, the cooperation with the photographer was highly synchronized. The final presented effect has a clean contrast, preserving the character's gentle and introverted side while also capturing the demeanor of a martial artist, beautifully bringing this 2D character to life.
