For this shoot, I chose the character Ren Nanase, pairing a Pink nurse uniform with a white apron adorned with cartoon patterns. The hair was styled with a pink-purple wig, and for eye makeup, large-diameter blue-green colored contacts were used to closely match the character. The shoot took place in a hotel room, with curry rice and drinks prepared as props. A 50mm prime lens was used to gently blur the background, while warm-toned softboxes helped cultivate a cozy, everyday domestic atmosphere. Posing revolved around eating and toasting, aiming to convey the character's warmth and approachable charm. Post-processing focused on refining skin tones while preserving that distinct 2D aesthetic. As a character from a vintage title, she has very distinct traits; I reviewed extensive reference materials beforehand to accurately capture her specific demeanor. Checking the final shots, I was very satisfied with both the lighting and expressions. This set is particularly suited to showing the character in a casual, home-like setting. I spent the entire week selecting and editing photos, mainly wanting to see if I could bring out a deeper portrayal of the character. Posing while eating curry was surprisingly tricky during the shoot—balancing the feeling of genuinely dining with maintaining engaging eye contact with the camera. Especially when coordinating the toasting gesture, I repeatedly adjusted the angle of my raised hand and where my gaze landed to look as natural as possible. To complement this slice-of-life setting, the makeup wasn't applied too heavily, with subtle tweaks made around the eyes to keep them bright and expressive. The costume was custom-tailored with a tapered waist to flatter body curves. The curry used as a prop was prepared right before shooting to preserve an authentic sense of daily life. Lighting mainly relied on side-window daylight inside the hotel room combined with a front-side fill light, giving the skin a clean, translucent appearance. In post-production, the skin texture was smoothed out and the pink tone of the uniform was graded toward a warmer, more nostalgic hue. The true heart of this photo set was to evoke the memory of those classic characters. The original work carries a strong sense of its era, so we deliberately chose retro elements for the surroundings, such as wooden tables and dark curtains. Thinking back to the character's original setting, it truly took dedicated contemplation to bring her to life. The full production took time, and the published photos were curated with great care. As for styling the wig, I shaped the curve of the bangs beforehand with a curling wand and locked them with hairspray so they wouldn't shift easily. During makeup application, the thickness of the eyeliner and the flick at the corners were continually adjusted until they captured that authentic look from the original anime. Because the uniform features an open neckline, careful posture was needed throughout to accentuate feminine curves. Under the hotel room lighting, the food also looked warm and inviting. For someone who loves cosplaying classic retro anime characters, this photoshoot was a heartfelt tribute to a classic.
