Putting on this Hatsuboshi Academy uniform and styling the deep Purple short hair wig laid down the solid foundation for the entire look. Misuzu Hataya's short haircut is instantly recognizable; to capture that airy volume, I trimmed and sculpted the wig well in advance. The length of the blunt bangs had to be meticulously measured to just graze the eyebrows, with side tendrils hugging the face naturally to frame facial contours and mirror her character design. Synthetic wigs can easily look unnatural, so I worked in a touch of pomade to texture the strands, lending the crown and sides a much softer curve, followed by setting spray to prevent flyaways. In terms of makeup, to highlight the character's traits, the base makeup aimed for a fair, matte porcelain finish with focused attention on the eyes and blush. The eye makeup used cool grey-brown undertones paired with grey-green cosmetic contacts to give the gaze a crystal-clear depth. Blush was swept generously across the cheeks and the tip of the nose to evoke a natural youthful flush. The lip contours were softened with a light pink lip glaze, and a small mole was dotted near the corner of the mouth with a liquid eyeliner pen to enhance realistic nuance. To ensure long-lasting wear, I devoted substantial time to setting the makeup, applying a fine baking technique especially under the eyes where creasing tends to happen. Regarding garment details, the white long-sleeved shirt was pressed crisp and smooth, tied at the collar with a slender light-blue ribbon that drapes naturally downward. The matching light-blue trim on the cuffs echoes the collar ribbon, carrying sharp design intent. The dark suit vest boasts wonderful weight and drape; the golden square crest on the left chest serves as the crowning touch, which alongside the golden buttons at the bottom harmonizes seamlessly with the academy's uniform palette. To restore the character's ornaments, I pinned a hair accessory with golden tassels to the right side of the head, whose gentle sway adds visual dynamism during shots. The tailoring is equally crucial: the tapering at the vest's waist and the crisp structure of the shirt collar directly shape the final visual presentation. For this photo series, an even indoor overhead light was chosen, cleanly revealing the textile textures and subtle makeup pigments. Posing angles shifted between a subtle upward tilt and direct eye-level framing, testing gestures like propping up the chin or raising a hand to discover the most vibrant expression for the character. Because this is a casual, slice-of-life Gakuen Idolmaster look, facial expressions did not need dramatic exaggeration—a soft, spirited smile was plenty. The main hurdle in selfie framing lies in camera distance and perspective: pulling back slightly reveals more outfit elements like the vest insignia and collar ribbon, whereas stepping closer zooms in on the intricate makeup details. The true completeness of any styling goes beyond piling on clothes and cosmetics; it rests on genuine comprehension of the character's lore. Misuzu Hataya's gentle poise and underlying vitality require both visual appearance and body language working in unison. Even though this was done as a selfie shoot, meticulous preparation went into garment pressing, wig grooming, and makeup nuances, striving to convey her most authentic self before the lens. This trial also offered great takeaways for future shoots—such as trimming the wig to frame the face even closer and blending the blush more seamlessly—refinements that will make future cosplay works all the more polished.
