Shooting these Castorice cosplay photos proved to be quite a test of both physical stamina and attention to detail. The long-handled scythe prop looks exceptionally sharp on camera, but its center of gravity is front-heavy; holding it aloft for extended takes left my wrists and shoulders noticeably sore, requiring frequent breaks to stretch. Furthermore, its rigid build meant swings couldn't be overly aggressive to avoid unnatural structural angles before the lens. Nonetheless, its illuminated components performed brilliantly on location, serving as the crowning touch alongside the purple attire to infuse the atmosphere with depth.
For hair and makeup, extensive time went into smoothing out the long wig. To capture a wind-blown flow, the hair ends were separated into multiple tiers and treated with extra styling spray, ensuring an organic curve during hair flips without looking stiff. I trimmed the elf ears myself, continually tweaking the flower wreath's placement so it rested snugly atop the wig without slipping off. The cutout neckline and chest corsage easily shifted out of alignment during broad movements, so I had to keep my gestures somewhat measured.
The location was Zhengzhou Mengxiang, where we selected a red-grid exterior wall. The venue was quite busy that day, so to steer clear of pedestrians, photographer Zhenyu scouted unique vantage points—including low-angle upward compositions with me positioned on elevated ground. Strong reflections off the floor tiles put the anti-slip grip of the boots to the test; capturing that dynamic walking stride required pacing back and forth over a dozen times. The skirt features a two-tiered build: the outer purple-black sheer fabric carries subtle butterfly-wing textures, where spreading it too wide looks chaotic, yet spreading it too little loses dramatic impact.
I also dedicated care to post-processing, keeping light effects within an organic range to emphasize the blade's sharpness without looking overly synthetic or like an AI illustration. I reviewed raw outtakes with the photographer to identify which angles yielded the most natural flow. With the elf ear motif and such a richly layered dress, the overall silhouette stood out with unmistakable character identity.
Coordinating White stockings, tall boots, and the skirt hem is demanding on leg proportions, but it stretched the silhouette elegantly once put together. Full-body shots demanded meticulous attention to ankle angles to avoid shortening the calves, while waist-up portraits focused squarely on gazes and upper-body poise, balancing a touch of aloof coolness. The cinched waist and skirt hem formed distinct visual tension across different poses, requiring experimentation to discover which angles flattered its fluttering lightness best.
Convention photography is undeniably exhausting, but seeing the final images retain both rich tactile texture and the character's intrinsic charm validated every bit of preparation. The skirt length hit the sweet spot, revealing flattering leg contours during movement that, paired with high-heeled boots, stretched proportions visually. Immense thanks to on-site staff for smoothing my hemline and handing me water; in warm weather, walking for hours in heavy garments and tall boots is no easy feat. Zhengzhou Mengxiang's venue illumination complemented the atmosphere wonderfully—capturing such rich layering truly hinges on thoughtful light mastery in Cosplay photography.
