For this Tendou Arisu shoot, the costume's material is a major highlight I especially want to share with everyone. To recreate that futuristic cyberpunk style, I chose a custom outfit primarily made of patent leather and PVC. This glossy material absorbs a massive amount of light during studio shooting, placing exceptionally high demands on lighting setups. This time, we adopted a shadowless studio shooting plan with a pure white background; large softboxes paired with rim lighting not only separated the layers of the white bodice and the dark blue skirt hem, but also maximized the mirror-like reflective texture of the patent leather, avoiding pitch-black shadows.
Regarding the wig, Arisu's deep blue long hair carries strong anime attributes. When trimming the bangs, I tried to preserve the heavy feel of the blunt bangs, and the sideburns on both sides were styled to hug the face, which helps flatter face shapes better in front of the camera. The mecha hair ornaments on top are rather heavy, so I used numerous invisible hairpins and hairspray to secure them to the crown, ensuring they wouldn't shift while striking poses. On the makeup front, aside from conventional base makeup, blue circle lenses are the soul; the eye makeup deepened the contour of the outer corners to make the gaze look more focused.
Wearing this tight patent leather outfit is genuinely a significant test for physical movements. The material itself lacks elasticity, so when executing kneeling or leg-lifting postures, special attention had to be paid to the pulling sensation at the joints to prevent seams from splitting. The kneeling pose in the first photo is an angle I'm quite satisfied with; through lifting the arms and slightly turning the upper body, it visually elongated the waistline, while the wrapping feel of the dark over-the-knee Stockings successfully brought out the leg lines. The single-leg standing posture in the second photo emphasizes dynamism, where the stability of the high heels and center-of-gravity distribution become crucial, requiring precise snapshot capture by the photographer. Speaking of the skirt hem design, it features an asymmetrical cut—shorter in front and longer in the back—which fans out naturally when standing, but when sitting or kneeling, its pleats must be manually adjusted to ensure the dimensional form presented in the camera is flawless. The gloves also came in two versions, one black and one white, forming a visual contrast to enrich the frame's complexity.
Shooting this non-breathable material under harsh studio lights also made sweat and reflection control a major headache. I applied sweat-absorbing patches inside the outfit beforehand and used a generous amount of setting spray to ensure the makeup wouldn't patch up from sweating. Meanwhile, to prevent reflector boards from making things look overly oily from certain angles, my assistant constantly helped me press down with oil-absorbing sheets.
Arisu as a character inherently possesses a contrasting cuteness combining machinery and a young girl, so in portraying her postures, I also retained some playful actions amidst the cold mecha vibe. Overall, this shoot was a dual challenge testing material control and physical expressiveness; I hope these reflective-textured finished photos let everyone feel the charm of cyber sci-fi.
