Sharing this set of Fate/Grand Order Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) convention photos in collaboration with photographer Wugen, shot on location at an Anime convention. The convention floor was crowded with chaotic light sources, so we intentionally found a relatively dark corner adjacent to a high-powered softbox. The photographer utilized this side-backlight to sculpt the contours of the head and outfit.

This look pairing a black sailor uniform with long white hair is iconic, with the red ribbon tie serving as the visual focal point. Securing the black horn headpieces was quite laborious and required plenty of bobby pins. The most physically demanding element was the massive white flag with black patterns; because the flag was huge yet lightweight, the slightest breeze made it flutter wildly. To capture the precise instant the banner flared, I had to repeatedly swing the flagpole with force while keeping my gaze and facial expressions strictly controlled. The combination of the pleated skirt and black stockings showed incredible texture under low light; the over-the-shoulder look-back pose required shifting my weight onto the front leg while slightly pulling back and lifting the rear foot to elongate the leg lines. Paired with the motion of the pleated skirt, this perspective lengthened the visual proportions wonderfully.

Photographer Wugen is highly experienced with capturing motion. When shooting the side-profile horizontal flag-holding pose, he instructed me to tense the back of my hand slightly and infuse a hint of lethal intent into my gaze. Throughout the shoot, we experimented with different stances and angles across multiple takes to dodge background pedestrians. Holding the flagpole steady against the draft without losing my balance demanded tightening my core muscles. Despite how noisy the Anime convention hall was, high-contrast lighting and cool-toned color grading produced a remarkably pure atmosphere, preserving the striking black-white-red contrast.

Because of the vast venue, carrying the flag around made it easy to bump into people, demanding extra caution. To keep the sailor top from looking bulky in motion, I adjusted the waist fit to let the subtle cutouts reveal just a sliver of skin. The choice of over-the-knee black stockings was also spot-on; their subtle sheen in dark settings, paired with the skirt, played a crucial role in delivering commanding presence. Looking back, half-kneeling, and waving the banner—these actions, combined with the bold leading lines created by the sprawling flag, allowed an Anime convention photo to achieve the cinematic texture of a full-scale photoshoot. Though tiring, seeing the light, shadow, and dynamic energy in the raw shots made it feel genuinely worthy of the line: 'Follow me, to victory.'
