Standing in the outdoor playground dressed in this Cheshire Swimsuit outfit, direct sunlight hit the yellow slide railings and blue pillars, creating vivid environmental colors. The original intention of this outdoor shoot was to capture that lighthearted, playful, and lived-in summer atmosphere.
During hair and makeup prep, I paid close attention to the details of this costume. The sheer white tulle cover-up features ruffled cuffs, worn over a dark purple strappy bikini. The cross straps across the chest and matching bow choker around the neck unified the color scheme into a refreshing purple-and-white palette. The silver-grey wig with aqua-blue gradient shimmered with a soft luster under the strong sun. The large white plush animal ears on top with purple tassels, paired with sunglasses featuring teal reflective lenses, made the whole look incredibly eye-catching on camera. The purple woven thigh ring added a playful cosplay detail.
The prop used during the shoot was a blue-and-white inflatable swim ring, which played a major role in both composition and atmospheric creation. Holding the swim ring while standing on the steps or sitting down to reach out in playful interaction enriched the visual elements while highlighting the Swimsuit summer theme. The playground facilities were fantastic—yellow slides, reddish-orange climbing rope nets, and black open-grid steps provided not only a colorful backdrop but also versatile opportunities for standing and seated poses.
The outdoor temperature that day was quite high. While wearing a Swimsuit makes outdoor shooting relatively lightweight, maintaining energy under high heat and intense glare required adjustment. Fortunately, the photographer Shen Wenwen handled light and angles with great expertise. In such outdoor settings, heavy facial shadows or blown-out highlights often occur easily, yet the final Convention photo exposures were impeccably controlled, resulting in a transparent look with rich color saturation. In terms of posing, rather than forcing complex moves, I adopted natural, intimate gestures like leaning slightly forward, beckoning with an outstretched hand, or clenching fists in a cute pose to channel the character's warm, endearing, and slightly ditzy charm.
Compared to studio lighting setups, the outdoor playground environment adds everyday realism, bridging cosplay and real-world scenes more seamlessly. The incline of the slides combined with a slightly low-angle perspective elongated body proportions, while the translucent white cover-up added an airy, breathing feel to the frame. In the shot sitting on the steps with clenched fists, side lighting clearly brought out the textures of the purple thigh ring and denim shorts.
Overall, the shooting process was delightful. Without relying on complex post-processing compositing, the creation relied on natural light and geometric scene lines. Natural lighting, vibrant play structures, and the character's design harmonized to produce the fresh, radiant summer feel I originally envisioned for this outdoor shoot. Every time I meticulously finish styling and costume prep, then head outdoors to document a character blending into real life, it brings an immense sense of fulfillment.
