The core concept of this Sandrone photoshoot was a strong collision between the dark gothic style of the Fatui Harbinger and the flawless, pure white European-style scene. To fit the setting of a mechanical doll, a lot of thought went into the makeup and styling. First is the base makeup, which had to be absolutely flawless to highlight the doll's non-human feel. The long golden curly hair was deliberately given a slightly messy treatment, with the layered ends trimmed very finely. Combined with the bright blue colored contact lenses, I hoped to convey that exquisite yet cold mechanical feel through the lens. In terms of eye makeup, the smudging at the outer corners of the eyes and the clustered feel of false eyelashes were emphasized. Paired with a large area of pink blush, it strikes a subtle balance between a cold vibe and girlishness. The lip makeup was chosen with a slightly glossy texture to make the entire face look more vibrant.
The clothing part is the soul of the entire look and the most time-consuming part. The black-and-gold gothic mini dress, from fabric selection to lace patterns, closely matches the character's temperament. The cut-out design on the chest and the dark red gemstone cross decoration create a striking material contrast. The black wing accessory on the back waist is made of a stiff material; to ensure a natural spreading angle when sitting, quite a few hidden buttons and structural supports were actually built into the back. To give the overall image a slight visual pop amidst the darkness, the lower body was paired with pure white stockings. These aren't just regular white stockings; they feature a specially added golden cross-strap design, with black-and-gold intertwined bow ribbons tied at the ankles. When adjusting sitting postures, crossing legs, or stretching, the gloss of the white stockings and the layering of the straps come through. This is a small personal design addition on top of the reproduction, hoping to better showcase the character's traits.
The scene was chosen within a pure white backdrop. The white gothic window grilles, Roman pillars, and plush carpet formed a stark contrast with the all-black outfit. During the shoot, I tried various sitting postures, from sitting on a cylindrical stone pier to sitting directly on the carpet. In terms of action design, I tried to mimic the slightly rigid yet elegant posture of a doll. For example, extending fingers, gently stroking the cheek, keeping the gaze fixed straight into the lens, maintaining a focused yet slightly hollow stare. Especially when shooting close-ups of the legs, we communicated with the photographer for a long time on how to present the best angle for the white stockings and straps. The light filtering through the hollows of the window grilles hit the skirt hem and white stockings, and the alternating texture of light and shadow was fantastic. The use of light and shadow greatly enriched the layering of the frame, and every minor adjustment of the sitting posture created different interactions between the pleated skirt edge and the plush texture of the ground.
Overall, both the details of the costume and the echo of the scene well expressed my understanding of Sandrone from Genshin Impact. Performing with dark gorgeousness in a pure white space was an immensely satisfying creative experience.
