Today at the convention, I shot a set of Phrolova convention photos. Preparing for this look took considerable time and care beforehand. Starting with the wig, this mint-green gradient required meticulous styling—the curls at the ends couldn't be too rigid, requiring an organic, airy flow, so I took a curling wand to refine the waves every morning. The crimson floral coronet at the crown serves as the visual centerpiece of the ensemble; its petals are slender and radiating, and to ensure it looked dimensional under harsh convention lighting, we layered several materials so that even a gentle draft sets the petals and stamens swaying.

The most intricate garment detail lies in the scarlet floral emblem at the chest and the long cascading ribbons trailing downward. Because the ribbons are quite long, choosing a fabric that was too light meant they would instantly knot after a few steps, whereas anything too heavy lacked that weightless, liquid momentum. In the end, we selected ribbons with a fluid drape yet delicate translucency, allowing the wind to whip the red ribbons against the white skirt for a striking chromatic contrast during the shoot. The skirt features a multi-tiered, asymmetrical hemline, while the white pantyhose beneath and the red platform Mary Jane heels echo the overall red-and-white palette while easing the strain on my soles after pacing the exhibition hall all day.

During shooting, the overhead structural lighting of the venue provided creative inspiration. The surrounding environment was quite cluttered, so post-production desaturated the background into black-and-white, preserving only the red, white, and green tones to pull the visual focal point entirely onto the figure. The water splash effect across the ground in the second shot was created by spritzing water with a spray bottle combined with composite editing; paired with the billow of the skirt caught in motion, it conveys the sensation of stepping forward through the rain. Though confined within an expo hall, through camera angles and lighting, we strived to faithfully evoke that aloof, fragile aura. The pairing of White stockings and crimson shoes carried an exquisite texture under the flash, carving out rich chiaroscuro.

Regarding the character Phrolova, the deepest takeaway from this session was how expansive the body language needed to be. The voluminous sleeves and skirt flare naturally restricted mobility, but commanding her presence demanded broad, outstretched gestures. After several takes, my arms and shoulders were genuinely sore, yet seeing the frozen flutter of the skirt in the final frames made every bit of detail prep worthwhile. This convention photo session gave me fresh insights into controlling skirt sweeps and streaming ribbons, and I look forward to exploring more dynamic action captures in future shoots.
