The Convention photos for Temari (Temari cosplay) from Naruto were shot at the convention this time. The entire visual focus of this styling rests squarely on the giant folding fan prop. Once unfurled, the fan's surface is larger than the entire upper body; crafted with a bamboo frame, it carries substantial weight in hand. To convey an effortless lightness before the lens, my core and arms had to exert coordinated strength to control the fan's angle. After shooting several movement sets, my wrists and shoulders definitely felt noticeably sore and fatigued.
Regarding costume details, I opted for the classic black short-sleeved crossover collar top paired with a wide red sash—offering striking color contrast that maintained clear recognition even under the convention's intricate ambient lighting. The golden four-ponytail wig was specially styled and set to keep the hair voluminous without flying wildly during dynamic poses. The metallic finish of the forehead protector gleamed distinctly under the flash; fitted securely across the forehead, numerous bobby pins were added beneath the headband to lock it firmly in place.
For the legs, I styled Fishnet stockings paired with platform lace-up combat boots. Choosing platform boots was primarily because convention hall floors are flat and hard, and with many bold poses involved, the platforms not only flattered visual body proportions but also provided superior grip during stances like lunges. However, pairing Fishnet stockings with boots tended to generate friction when walking, so the mesh had to be smoothed and straightened every now and then to maintain a clean, tidy visual look.
Between the two main poses captured in this Anime cosplay set, the first is a relatively static three-quarter standing pose with one hand on the hip, using the fan as the foreground element. The second features a forward lunge with a lowered center of gravity, brandishing the fan high behind my back. To nail the best angle for the second shot, the photographer and I communicated repeatedly, adjusting the tilt of the fan and the forward lean of my body so the open fan behind could spread out fully to anchor the entire frame. With many attendees wandering around, we did our best to angle out background clutter, utilizing the floor's vanishing perspective lines to accentuate three-dimensional depth.
When it comes to expression management, Temari's personality is defined by coolness, composure, and decisiveness. Thus during the shoot, I avoided overly lively expressions, striving instead to keep my gaze sharp and focused to match the forward-leaning posture, aiming to channel the character's formidable combat prowess. Tucking the chin slightly and locking my gaze onto the camera lens—fine-tuning such micro-expressions is pivotal in Convention photos.
Convention venues are noisy and bustling, with overhead lights mixed into all sorts of ambient lighting. Producing clean photos demands high standards for garment texture and post-processing retouching. The black fabric absorbed considerable light this time, meaning extra fill light was essential in dimmer areas to discern the garment's folds and the red sash's layered depth. Fortunately, the final retouched results met our expectations, faithfully capturing both the prop's imposing presence and the character's fierce aura. Moving forward, I might take this fan out for an outdoor photoshoot, which should reveal a distinct texture under natural light.
