Digging out these photos of Hatsune Miku Rabbit Hole otaku girl taken before weight gain, looking at myself on the screen, I actually have a lot of feelings. Back then, to pull off this styling well, a lot of effort was indeed put into the costume matching and the shaping of the overall atmosphere. The essence of this set's design lies in the sharp contrast between the upper and lower body. I picked a black hooded sweatshirt with an oversized fit; after putting the hood up, the whole person has a sense of security of being wrapped up, which just matches the otaku girl trait of not wanting to go out and wanting to hide in a corner. But the lower body is paired with fishnet stockings featuring black garter straps, stepping onto a pair of red-bottomed high heels. This contrast of a well-behaved, flesh-covering upper body and a tight, figure-showing lower body has a very strong visual impact.
The handling of the wig can also be considered a focal point of this set of pictures. The blue-pink gradient long curly hair has a slightly gray-toned blue at the top, and the hair ends are permed into natural wavy curls and dyed a vivid pink. To style out bangs that are slightly messy yet possess a sense of sophistication, I used plenty of styling products in advance to adjust the arc, hoping to get close to that unique two-dimensional dreamy feel. The makeup is based on a translucent and fair base foundation, with heightened red eyeshadow blending and deep red lip makeup, paired with a solid purple background and white polka-dot light spots behind. Once the overall lighting was set up, the atmosphere was instantly maximized.
During the shooting process, props were also very important assistants. To express the daily state of an otaku girl, I held a shiny pink phone with decorations, lowering my head to focus on sliding the screen, or held a blue drink can while sitting on a student desk with crossed legs. The photographer is very good at catching angles, like the second centrally-composed photo: the crossed-leg posture can not only lengthen the leg lines in front of the camera, but also properly showcase the details of the fishnet stockings and high heels, naturally blending sexy elements into a lazy scene. The yellow desks and chairs placed around allowed me to more naturally immerse myself in that slightly rebellious, slightly bored recess state, as if it were a daily routine of secretly goofing off in the classroom.
To be honest, my weight back then was indeed much lighter than now. To maintain that seemingly slender body shape, my daily diet and routine were kept quite tight, and my physical state was actually in a sub-health condition. I am a full ten pounds heavier now than when this set was shot. At first, looking back at past works, I inevitably felt a little gap, feeling like my current self wouldn't be able to fit into these clothes or capture that slender feeling. But after going through this period, my body has indeed gotten much better; both my energy and immunity are stronger than before. These ten pounds were traded for a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle, and thinking of this, I gradually forgave myself. After all, cosplay is meant to express love for a character. As long as you can show a satisfying state in front of the camera and enjoy the joy brought by role-playing, body shape should not be the only standard. Accepting my present self will allow me to present more good works in the future.
