[Saber cosplay] Fate Series: Elegant Glance Back in a Blue Dress and Longsword

As a cosplayer who deeply loves the Fate series, I always believe every cosplay is a test of my performance ability and understanding of costumes, makeup, and props. This time, I chose Saber's classic king image, breaking away from her usual routine of knight armor or casual wear to put on this dark Blue backless dress. A blue gown tests body shape and posture the most; luckily, my shoulder-neck line and back curves could support the elegance of this large area of exposed skin. Complemented by elbow-length black lace gloves, this black-and-blue color contrast design looks visually sharp and fits her slightly cold and aloof temperament.

Choosing a backward glance perspective was because I wanted to capture her solitary pride in a magnificent palace, along with her vigilant posture as the King of Knights. For hair styling, I specifically picked blonde hair with natural color transitions, spending quite some effort fixing that signature Blonde ahoge—the very soul of Saber. The light and shadow created by the crystal chandeliers and background walls were dreamlike. During shooting, I repeatedly adjusted angles under the lights, conveying a sharp yet warm sense of power through my eyes. Although the prop longsword in hand had great texture, its weight was quite heavy; holding it with one hand while ensuring arm lines looked good and the blade didn't block the subject made the entire afternoon's shoot a huge challenge for strength and poise.

Many friends ask me why I love cosplay; actually, this immersive experience is addictive. When you put on the outfit, wear the wig, hold the prop, and stand in meticulously selected, highly faithful scenes, you feel one step closer to that fictional world. Since last year, I've been striving to improve the quality of my cosplay works, from early planning and costume/prop customization to on-site lighting coordination and post-processing, hoping to integrate professional studio-level aesthetics. Once the final photos came out, whether it was the cool-toned lighting or the composition of this looking-back photo, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment.

To shoot this theme well, my photography team and I communicated storyboards in advance, emphasizing the desire for European court magnificence and a cold-toned atmosphere. Those crystal chandeliers and carved paneling in the background were exactly the elements we wanted. Throughout the shoot, we rarely made loud noise, immersing ourselves in this static tension—quiet and restrained, placing emotion right in the eyes and eyebrows like this frame. This style with a classical ceremonial feel is something worth savoring and exploring in today's fast-paced cosplay community. I even brought several pairs of contact lenses with different reflectivities to match lighting from various angles, striving to make my gaze more piercing before the lens. Though time-consuming, these details were worth polishing to showcase her elegant and resolute nature.

If I had to choose my favorite photo from this set to share, I would still pick this looking-back shot, because whether in aesthetics, recognizability, or understanding of character dynamic, it met my expectations wonderfully. This is actually another side I wanted to explore—not limited to her original battle image, but using an evening gown to display her composure and poise as a king. A character's true soul shouldn't be defined by just one look; I intentionally incorporated subtle touches into costumes and props to make her appearance in this aristocratic classical setting feel completely natural. Works shot like this carry much more warmth and uniqueness for me.
