[Saber cosplay] Blue and white porcelain Cheongsam Meets Fate: Firefly ACG Expo Photo Recap

The shooting of the Saber Blue and white porcelain Convention photo at Firefly ACG Expo is complete. This outfit incorporated classic elements of Fate and was exceptionally well-received at the event. The indoor lighting on-site was rather complex, so to achieve a clean background, we deliberately sought out a relatively darker corner, laid down a white fleece blanket, and began shooting. The costume was crafted from Blue and white porcelain style white fabric adorned with blue floral patterns. Due to cutout designs across the chest and along the waist, we applied a lot of body tape to prevent exposure; wearing it required me to maintain a poised posture at all times without excessive movements. Walking around the convention floor, the flowing ribbons were prone to being stepped on or brushing against passersby, demanding extra caution. I wore white high heels throughout the shoot, which became quite painful after standing for a long time, but I endured it for the sake of the final visual presentation.

The folding fan prop served as the finishing touch—it looked wonderful whether held covering half my face or posed dynamically in hand, especially in close-up shots where concealing half my face made my gaze much more expressive. The seated pose was quite demanding; I had to extend my legs while keeping a relaxed, natural expression, and the photographer guided me for quite a while before capturing a satisfying angle. The wig featured a blonde bob with an ahoge on top, paired with blue-gray contact lenses that gave the eyes a deep, captivating look. To pick the right blue lenses, I tested multiple shades beforehand, eventually settling on a soft gray-toned blue to avoid looking unnatural while sharpening the gaze. For the makeup, I intentionally used reddish eye shadow with gentle smudging along the lower lids to bring out a touch of vulnerability, creating a nice contrast with the outfit. The eyeliner was kept delicate and slender for a spirited effect. Styling the ahoge was tricky; keeping it upright on the crown was tough, so we ultimately propped it up firmly with hairspray and bobby pins, though it still swayed slightly when a breeze blew.

As an iconic character from the Fate series, Saber is fundamentally known as an earnest, charming, and righteous King of Knights, but pairing her with this traditional Chinese Blue and white porcelain motif worked unexpectedly well. The blue-and-white pattern carries profound classical charm, and blending it with a traditional cheongsam silhouette created both Eastern elegance and anime allure. The best part of a convention photo lies in its raw authenticity—surrounded by fellow fans, the energetic atmosphere naturally fuels the shoot. Although filming at an expo is tiring and photobombers are hard to avoid, this lively real-world environment breathes organic life into the pictures.

For post-processing, we mainly balanced the background contrast to make the subject pop while preserving the crisp detail of the Blue and white porcelain patterns. The outfit's cut demands a great physique, requiring accentuated curves while restricting mobility, so keeping an eye on wrinkles and wardrobe integrity was essential. The black-and-white folding fan formed a sharp visual contrast against the blue-and-white dress. To create a fluttering, airy motion, I flicked the sleeves back and forth countless times until my arms grew sore. The convention hall was so noisy that communicating with the photographer essentially meant shouting, but seeing the finished shots made every bit of effort worthwhile—an unforgettable chronicle of my ACG journey. This shoot was a deeply meaningful milestone in my cosplay endeavors; even with minor flaws, these candid moments captured the day's genuine emotions. I look forward to portraying Saber even better in the future. Expo venues are unpredictable with dense crowds and tricky lighting, requiring immense patience to snag great shots. That is precisely why I am so pleased with this Convention photo set—it captures spontaneous, lively moments rather than rigid poses. How to fan out the prop naturally to hide awkward angles was something I pondered extensively before shooting. The blue-and-white dress with white heels lengthened my leg line substantially, well worth the aching feet. This experience offered me a fresh perspective on Saber, and I can't wait to explore more fusions of traditional aesthetics and anime culture.
