[Cirno cosplay] Touhou Project's Ice Fairy: Convention Photos and Shoot Reflections

This set of Touhou Project Cirno cosplay convention photos was taken during a previous anime convention. I hadn't originally planned to release them so soon, but scrolling through my camera roll today, the lighting and mood felt spot-on, so I curated nine shots for a post. We opted for a neutral gray background, primarily to steer clear of the cluttered crowds on the show floor. The crystal wings on my back took considerable craft—made from iridescent laser acrylic, side-lighting produced stunning prismatic reflections, and the photographer adjusted the lighting positions multiple times to capture those luminous highlights.

For hair and makeup, we carefully balanced the wig tone and fringe length; the smooth, sleek texture of the blue bob naturally aligned with the character's demeanor. The outfit features a blue-and-white maid dress accented with a bold red ribbon bow, supported by a petticoat puffed to an ideal silhouette. White knee-high socks paired with brown leather shoes visually elongated my legs under the studio lighting. Throughout the session, we explored several poses; the side-sitting pose in the nine-grid turned out to be the absolute highlight—centering the figure while balancing bent and extended leg lines gracefully, perfectly showcasing the socks and footwear combination.

The handheld prop for this shoot was a long-handled feather duster, which, paired with the crystal wings behind me, established an ambiance both domestic and mysteriously whimsical. Because the wings carry noticeable heft, maintaining a straight back to keep support rigs hidden meant taking frequent breaks between takes. The photographer offered invaluable pointers on posing nuances—where to rest my hands, how to angle my hips—all aimed at capturing the character's confident, slightly mischievous spirit. Post-processing avoided heavy special effects, focusing instead on amplifying the refractive hues of the crystals and cooling down the color temperature to complement an ice-element character, all while keeping skin tones luminous and clear.

Every character brings distinct challenges; this time, it was the wig strands fraying slightly after prolonged wear, along with occasional harsh reflections off the crystal props. Still, the final nine selected photos captured that decisive freeze-frame presence and crisp character portrayal, achieving a faithful and rewarding recreation. The photographer demonstrated superb command over framing and negative space, and I gained invaluable practical experience in prop handling and lighting control.
