These Genshin Impact Sandrone and Columbina cosplay works are finally out. The theme this time is 'Puppet 99,' which has also fulfilled a long-held wish of mine for a duo project. As the person portraying the puppet Sandrone, today I'd like to talk about the behind-the-scenes of this shoot from a personal experience perspective.
First is the preparation of the costumes and makeup. Sandrone's outfit has many elements; the keynote is black and white, with red and gold accents. Structurally, it includes many corsets, wide sleeves, and geometric patterns. In particular, the large white lace bowknot on the head needs careful angle adjustment to stay upright. For the wig, I chose long, straight, light silver-white hair, paired with light blue contact lenses to make the gaze look sharper. The ensemble for Columbina is mainly white and blue, integrating a large number of feather decorations and cross-laced strap designs, giving a sense of lightness. The white feather hair accessory on her head and the thin tulle material at the hem of her clothes form a visual contrast and complement to my black-and-white color scheme. This clash of cool and warm colors is very effective in front of the lens.
On the day of the shoot, we chose a very clean, pure white studio. To ensure the character's temperament, we kept the indoor lighting very bright, using a high-key photography style to eliminate most harsh shadows. The background props used white and blue artificial flower vines, metal carved arches, and several layers of white tulle to build a dreamy, courtyard-like scene. Because both of us have 'cool outside, warm inside' character settings, we deliberately balanced the sense of contrast in our pose designs. In addition to standard standing poses, we also took many shots like the ones in the picture, such as sitting and snuggling, holding hands, and putting arms around each other. This not only preserves the characters' cold and elegant attributes but also showcases the unique bond of trust between them through their actions.
The hardest part of the shoot was coordinating our movements. Sometimes, to find a pose that wouldn't block our faces while remaining logical to the movement, we had to repeatedly adjust our standing positions and angles. For instance, in one set of hand-holding shots, we had to adjust the volume of the wide sleeves to ensure the clothes wouldn't get stretched and deformed. There was also a composition where I was sitting and she was half-kneeling beside me; we tried several angles to ensure both our eyes and expressions were on point. Fortunately, my partner was very professional, giving me great confidence in our eye contact and physical coordination, which made the shoot very efficient.
During post-processing, we kept the texture of the original photos, focusing on adjusting skin tones and white balance so that the overall image presents a clean and pure atmosphere. The entire project, from preparation to shooting to post-processing, took a lot of effort, but seeing the final photos, the sense of synergy between the characters and the atmosphere of the images achieved the expected effect, making us feel that all the hard work was worth it. I hope these photos will show more people the unique charm of this pair of characters in Genshin Impact, and let fellow fans of cosplay feel our serious attitude toward every work.
