This time, I brought Shiroko Sunaookami's swimsuit styling to a seaside gravel beach. Shiroko as a character has an extremely unique sense of composure. To accurately convey that wild yet slightly dorky temperament in front of the lens, I put a lot of effort into everything from makeup and styling to pose design. The silver-gray wig was trimmed with just the right amount of layering, and the animal ears on top were chosen from a material with a realistic fur-flow feel. Combined with the floating halo prop, the entire head styling required constant position adjustments in the strong wind environment to ensure frame completeness. To maintain the character's cool vibe, expression management was kept as restrained as possible, minimizing facial muscle fluctuations and conveying emotion solely through gaze focus.
The shooting location was a vast expanse of dark gravel beach, which is actually quite tough on the feet to walk on, especially wearing strappy sandals, requiring constant attention to footing balance to prevent missing a step or spraining an ankle. However, this rugged, unadorned natural environment happened to fit Shiroko's setting well. The blue-and-black color-blocked one-piece swimsuit has extremely clean lines, and under the cool-toned natural light of an overcast day, the steadiness of the black and the vibrancy of the cyan-blue formed a wonderful visual contrast. During the shoot, I tried to keep my body movements natural yet filled with a certain tension. Whether standing sideways and looking back, or leaning slightly forward to gaze straight into the lens, I was trying to capture Shiroko's unadorned straightforwardness.
The third photo of squatting on the ground holding a stone was an impromptu improvisation during the shoot. In her lore, Shiroko has a special interest in hard objects like stones; at that time on the tidal flat, I happened to pick up an irregularly shaped mudstone, so I naturally squatted down to interact with the camera, keeping my gaze in a state of calm observation. The lighting on that day was very soft, belonging to a diffused overcast day, which actually tests the texture of the costume materials and makeup. To highlight the swimsuit's tailoring and skin texture, during post-processing color grading, we darkened the background noise and made the overall cool-warm contrast more explicit, highlighting the subject's three-dimensionality.
The sea breeze indeed added difficulty to the shoot; hair and bag straps were frequently blown into a mess, requiring me to manage these details while posing so they wouldn't ruin the composition's center of gravity. Although this outfit is simple, it requires posture to elevate the overall expressiveness. The synergy with the photographer @猫拒绝了你 was extremely tacit; before the official shoot, we communicated the desired image atmosphere, and the final feature photos preserved the refreshing feel and a slight touch of ruthlessness that this styling should have. This photo set can be considered a quite satisfying attempt at combining character settings with real-world scenery. Although the seaside wind was strong and cold, seeing the final photos made everything worth it.
