[Grinning Professor cosplay] Blue Archive: The Yellow-Peach-Flavored Kid

Taking on this Grinning Professor cosplay from Blue Archive involved meticulous care from costume preparation to the actual shoot. Although this character inherently carries an aura of subtle danger, during the initial fitting I wanted to weave in a touch of my own personal interpretation. For the wig, I selected long, wavy light-blonde hair; the curve at the tips requires regular maintenance, otherwise it easily looks frizzy. To complement the green contact lenses, the eye makeup accentuated eyelash definition and eyeliner contours, while blush was brushed slightly higher on the cheekbones so smiling brings out that playfully innocent yet scheming vibe.

The long black coat serves as the visual cornerstone of this styling. Upon receiving it, I inspected the tailoring and button details; the silver buttons stand out crisply against the black fabric, preventing the overall aesthetic from feeling flat or dull. I adjusted the red bow at the collar multiple times to ensure it stood upright, pairing with the white ruffled inner skirt hem to create defined layering. For the lower half, the Black stockings were chosen in a semi-sheer style; under natural light, this texture not only flatters leg lines but also creates a cohesive visual rhythm with the black coat. The matching small black round bowler hat securely anchors the wig at the crown, rounding out a fuller head silhouette.

The prop staff features intricate carvings on its metallic head and carries noticeable heft in the hand. Holding it steadily with my right hand throughout the shoot left my arm quite sore over time. The shooting location was set outside a stone architectural building, where gray walls and dark attire created a striking contrast. To accommodate the yellow halo effect added in post-production, I deliberately chose slightly low-angle shots during filming.

For pose choreography, I half-crouched on the steps with my left leg bent and raised; this not only naturally highlighted the dynamic between the Black stockings and the skirt hem, but also injected compositional tension into the frame. Resting my left hand lightly below my cheek, gazing straight into the lens, with a faint, enigmatic smile playing at the corners of my mouth. To master this Grinning Professor expression, I practiced countless times in front of the mirror—it couldn't be overly exaggerated nor too cold, finding the sweet spot balancing playfulness with danger. Since I was handling the shoot solo, I had to set up the camera on a tripod beforehand, configuring the timer or remote shutter. After posing before the lens, I had to check frame borders for stray elements and verify that my proportions within the composition were balanced. Running back and forth adjusting focal lengths and framing, pressing the shutter, and sprinting back to review the raw shots was physically exhausting, but shaping the visuals entirely to my own vision made this 2D cosplay journey deeply fulfilling.
