[Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay] White Tulle and Mirrors: Crafting a Dreamy Water Element Atmosphere

For this Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay shoot, from early preparations to the final pictures, I spent roughly two weeks. Regarding attire and Anime-style fashion, the layers of this dress were much more complex than expected, especially fixing the blue chest gem and achieving the natural drape of the semi-transparent tulle on the waist sides, which required several repeated adjustments to find the most natural state.

The wig is custom-colored with a gradient, but to make the transition from pink to blue softer, I personally touched up a bit of highlight area. The scene on the shooting day was arranged by myself, utilizing massive amounts of white tulle and daisies to simulate a 'cloud' feel, with the floor laid with highly reflective silver mirror paper to capture reflections and impart greater spatial depth to the frame. While shooting, I lay flat on my back; this angle demands rigorous facial expression management since gravity slightly distorts facial muscles, and I tried several times to locate the most relaxed angle that avoids making my face look broad. The photographer deeply understands lighting, utilizing a softbox for direct frontal lighting to keep skin looking translucent and fair, while leveraging mirror reflections to supplement details in shadowed areas.

A highlight of this Anime-style fashion coordination is the light blue line totems on the white stockings, echoing the water wave elements on the dress; during shooting, I deliberately crossed my legs naturally to accentuate clean line contours. The shoes are white platform sandals, and I adore the small blue bow details. Some small behind-the-scenes elements were used during shooting, such as placing a birdcage nearby to add compositional depth, though I intentionally blurred out the birdcage in post-production to prevent it from stealing focus. The color scheme of the entire photo set leans cool-toned, with only the pinkish-purple hues in the hair and skirt hem serving as accents, which I feel aligns better with the aura this character imparts.

Regarding my understanding of Roleplay and Cosplay photography, I believe it goes far beyond merely wearing clothes and a wig; more importantly, it is about conveying the character's temperament through expressions, postures, and scenes. This time I selected a relatively quiet, languid supine posture, pairing soft gazes and slightly relaxed fingers to express a serene yet mystical vibe. Prime lenses were used throughout the entire shoot with the aperture opened to the maximum, completely softening the background to focus viewer attention squarely on the subject. In post-processing retouching, I preserved skin textures without excessive skin smoothing, merely tweaking tonal uniformity to render the blues and whites purer.

The biggest challenge in shooting this work was actually keeping the white clothing and backdrop clean; since I lay on the floor for a long time, the white stockings easily picked up dust, forcing me to pause and clean them several times mid-shoot. But seeing the final pictures made all the hard work worthwhile. I also experimented with makeup this time, utilizing a pink-blue gradient smudged eyeshadow with slightly elongated eyeliner to make the eyes look more spirited without appearing too sharp. The lip color was chosen as a very faint flesh-pink to maintain the overall breathable texture of the makeup. In terms of accessories, aside from the collar gemstone buckle, I also wore white gloves to ensure smooth continuity in arm contours.

This styling actually tilts toward a light, airy feel, so I tried avoiding stiffness in actions, keeping fingers naturally curved and feet relaxed to give the entire body a sense of drifting naturally with the current. The shooting process lasted roughly three hours, shifting through several different angles mid-way, but ultimately I felt this supine composition was the most complete, capturing full-body details while embodying the dreamy nature of the scene. The combination of white flowers and the metal birdcage feels exceptionally fairytale-like, aligning wonderfully with anime aesthetics.
