This shoot features a brand-new ocean-style dress, marking my fifth time cosplaying Kokomi. From her default skin to the maid, bunny, bridal, and now this Fontaine-style outfit, I feel like I'm becoming a Kokomi specialist! Yet, every time I put on her costume again, I experience a completely different feeling. The design inspiration of this outfit features a touch of Fontaine's elegant tailoring, paired with gradient layers of deep and light blue. Along with the bow on the chest and the flowing cape, wearing it genuinely makes me feel like Iāve gone to Fontaine for a vacation and picked up a new dress from Chioriya.
The studio set was prepared with immense care on the day of the shoot. The background utilized a large amount of translucent white sheer curtains, creating a dreamy ocean style akin to underwater shimmering light and deep-sea bubbles. The massive holographic jellyfish prop suspended overhead was a total eye-catcher. Paired with the sunset ocean painted on the easel, the entire scene possessed both the coolness of the ocean and the ambiance of an art gallery. I especially love the hand-cupping pose; combined with the jellyfish and bubbles, it looks as if I am summoning spirits from the sea. The white roses and the easel on the side made the composition fuller, while the thigh-high socks and white short boots preserved the character's youthful, girlish charm.
The makeup and lighting for this shoot were kept very clear and translucent. The post-processing retained the original blue-and-white color palette, highlighting the fabric texture of the outfit and the iridescent reflections of the jellyfish. Being my fifth time cosplaying this character, I found myself focusing more on emotional expression than the first time. Instead of just standing there, I wanted to convey Kokomi's relaxation and joy while strolling down the streets of Fontaine. This shoot was actually quite challenging. The cape is very airy, and to capture its flowing movement in the wind, the photographer had to adjust angles repeatedly. The studio's fan control also needed to be just right so that the interaction between the curtains and the jellyfish prop looked natural and not chaotic. Additionally, the painting on the easel was hand-drawn, perfectly matching the overall tone.
I feel that Kokomi is not only a rich and multi-layered character in the storyline, but her outfits also offer immense room for creativity in ACGN cosplay, with each theme capturing a different vibe. For this Fontaine-style outfit version, I wanted to blend softness with a cool elegance more closely, and the final photos definitely achieved the desired effect. If I get new inspiration in the future, I will probably continue to unlock other styles of Kokomiāafter all, there are so many diverse ways to interpret ocean elements. Special thanks to all the masters for the makeup, styling, and cosplay photography. Everyone was incredibly meticulous, from the wig styling to adjusting the accessories, which led to this satisfying presentation. I'll count this post as a record of this brand-new attempt.
