[Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay] Convention Photos Record of the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi Island

This time I portrayed the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi Island. Preparing this Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay outfit actually took quite a long time; I hadn't found a suitable photography session before, but luckily I made it to the anime convention this time, so I quickly took these Convention photos.

Regarding the outfit, this blue-toned clothing for Kokomi has rich layers. The sapphire decoration on the collar, white ruffled cuffs, tassels at the waist, and semi-transparent fabrics are all a test for lighting and angles on site—a bit dimmer and it loses that translucent feel. I made sure to carefully organize the white gloves and pearl accessories, hoping to present every detail in its best state.

Regarding the wig, I must honestly confess to everyone—as mentioned in my post's heartfelt thoughts—that I really can't edit hair. For Kokomi's hairstyle, the twin tails are not only long but also very thick, and with the pink-to-blue gradient color scheme, the original floating lightness is hard to simulate. As someone with clumsy hands, trimming and layering the wig was a major hurdle; many parts relied on forcing it into place on site and fixing it with hairspray. It looks barely acceptable in the photos, but a lot of time was spent tweaking and securing it behind the scenes, terrified that the bangs or side hairpieces would get messy with a single step. I apologize again and ask for your kind understanding.

As for makeup, focus was placed on defining the eyes. Kokomi's eyes are a very clear, light blue. To recreate her eye color, I selected matching light blue contact lenses. The eyeshadow used soft and dreamy tones to suit the character, while the base makeup was kept very light, paired with glossy lip glaze to capture the gentle, ethereal demeanor unique to a Hydro element character.

I picked the full-body photo in Picture 1 as the cover because I feel the brightest highlight of this costume lies in its overall tailoring, especially the pairing of white tights and shoes. The shoes feature delicate bow decorations plus thick soles, giving a light and playful feel when walking around the venue. These white tights with diamond and tassel designs not only flatter proportions but also fit the mystery of the character's mythological background.

For Pictures 2 and 3, I chose close-up shots mainly to express the character's restrained and gentle expression, yet reliable presence as a leader. Finding the emotion on site was a bit tricky, requiring me to settle down and ponder her mindset.

I have to mention that taking Anime cosplay photos at conventions is indeed more difficult than indoor studio shoots. Convention lighting is chaotic, and there's a constant stream of visitors. Luckily, the photographer was very experienced, finding gaps near pillars and hallways, using a large aperture lens to blur out the crowds and minimize background clutter. Since the main light source came from high spotlight beams in the hall, facial shadows could easily look harsh; the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted angles to capture these soft light-and-shadow moments.

Every time I do a cosplay, it's a journey into the character's inner world. Kokomi possesses a resilient sense of responsibility, so while maintaining a soft smile before the camera, her eyes also need to convey a certain strength.

In post-processing, since raw shots inevitably had flaws due to scattered lighting, I mainly increased overall translucency and fine-tuned color saturation. Addressing weak points in wig trimming from earlier, I applied slight blurring where hair strands overlapped, using visual softness to cover up detailed shortcomings in Cosplay photography.

These Convention photos serve as a milestone record. Although the final result might not be as polished as commercial blockbusters, the personal effort poured into it is genuine. Location shoots and conventions are always full of unexpected surprises and challenges. Given the chance next time, I'd like to find scenery closer to natural water elements—like the seaside or beside a clear stream—striving to truly capture the special ambiance of Watatsumi Island for a more authentic feel.
