This time, I arranged a summer-themed shoot for Genshin Impact's Sangonomiya Kokomi with photographer @Yongzhe. Being a long-time Kokomi player, I was really looking forward to recreating this swimsuit look. When I received the costume, the eye-catching shiny blue big bow hair ornament and off-the-shoulder sleeves with sheer fabric immediately made me feel the texture was spot-on. We deliberately chose a wide-open pool side, aiming to capture the artistic atmosphere of "bright moon over the vast sea, with tides rising and falling."
The weather on shoot day was fantastic! The light at sunset was super soft, and the clouds had remarkably rich layering, perfect for creating a classic backlit effect. To embody Kokomi's nimble and subtly mysterious demeanor, I emphasized translucency in hair and makeup—avoiding heavy smoky eye makeup and instead using glossy accents paired with long, pale white hair, striving for an overall refreshing atmosphere.
The highlight of this outfit is definitely the translucent gradient blue sheer skirt on the lower half. Being by the water made it easy to catch gusts of breeze, which happened to blow the sheer skirt gently during shooting. Combined with delicate ripples on the water surface, it created a wonderfully storied feel. The photographer was extremely professional with light control, utilizing the warm and cool tonal collisions between the water surface and sky to make the outfit's blue pop even more vividly, yielding a high rate of fantastic shots.
Waterside photography actually tests your physical endurance quite a bit—you have to carefully avoid wetting your wig and makeup while finding the optimal lighting angles. Although styling a wig is far more complex than everyday hair, every bit of prep was worth it to recreate Kokomi's elegant, nature-loving essence. Without preparing excessive background props this time, we relied heavily on natural environment and the language of light and shadow, completing this work as if engaging in a dialogue with nature.
Sometimes doing cosplay feels more like exploring self-expression. Putting on a character's costume to experience their living environment and atmosphere brings me immense satisfaction. For post-processing, we kept color tones as natural as possible, avoiding exaggerated skin smoothing or drastic light-and-shadow reshaping, hoping to convey the raw vitality of gentle sea breeze and surging tides on location. I hope everyone enjoys this swimsuit photoshoot set infused with sunset glow; it stands as one of my recent favorite attempts inspired by watery lightness, blending Kokomi's refined grace with summer's watery freshness.
