[Barbara Cosplay] Summer Water Park: Swimsuit Cosplay and Smiles

As temperatures keep rising, finding a spot with water in summer to escape the heat and shoot a photo set is very healing. In this set I'm sharing with you today, I cosplayed Barbara from Genshin Impact. Barbara herself in Genshin Impact is a deaconess for the Church of Favonius with a gentle, healing personality. The sound of her name carries a refreshing summer feel, like popping water bubbles.

The "Summer Swimsuit" look selected this time took a lot of effort in costume design. The top is an off-the-shoulder sailor-style swimsuit in blue and white; the white shoulder cape features delicate scalloped edges, and the buttons carry delicate cross decorations. The inner bodysuit part is royal blue, creating a great waist-cinching and shaping effect. The wide orange-striped bow right in the center serves as the visual focus, which not only adds layering but also jacks up the character's sweetness.

Regarding detail accessories, the headpiece design is filled with ingenuity. A light blue headband paired with a huge white five-petal flower with a yellow center perfectly unifies with the overall blue, white, and yellow color scheme. This headpiece makes the face look smaller while oozing idol style. The navy blue choker with a bell around the neck not only visually elongates the neckline, but also catches tiny metallic reflections during dynamic poses.

The sleeve portion features a detached design. The white lantern sleeves do not cling tightly to the arms, allowing more skin to breathe, and accented with blue piping, they look clean and crisp. This collision between retro aesthetics and modern swimwear is truly eye-catching. The skirt hem follows an umbrella-like A-line shape that just covers the bodysuit hem; this slightly puffed skirt hem not only makes legs look longer but also adds a flowing grace when walking.

The soul prop of this Barbara Cosplay photoshoot has to be the yellow rubber duck. Attached to the skirt at the waist via a metal clasp, its bright yellow color echoes the orange bow perfectly. With this duckling, the character feel hits max instantly—not only lively and cute, but also oozing a rich summer beach flavor.

For the location, we specifically picked two environments: an outdoor fountain pool and an indoor rest area. The refreshing summer feel brought by outdoor water scenery is irreplaceable; spray from the fountain formed beautiful Tyndall light rays under sunlight. Holding the swim ring or resting it in front of me allowed the blue-and-white ring to echo the blue pool background, keeping the image clean and cohesive.

After moving indoors, harsh natural light shifted into soft diffuse light, an environment far better suited for shooting interactive sitting poses. Sitting on the ground, I usually pay close attention to leg placement—bending one leg slightly while extending the other forward forms a V-shape in frame, lengthening overall proportions. The swim ring served as the perfect cushion here, sitting on it felt both setting-appropriate and effortless.

In terms of facial expression control, I strived to recreate the character's innocent and romantic feel. For example, peace signs or playful gestures like touching my head with one hand made the frame feel more storytelling. My gaze focused mainly toward the camera, holding a gentle yet energetic expression. During the shoot, I communicated often with the photographer about eye contact points to ensure every captured moment had a clear focal point.

For post-processing retouching, I focused on even skin tones and natural light transitions, preserving the environment's original blue-green palette to give the image a cool, bright, and translucent quality. Meanwhile, because the outfit contains many blue and white blocks, I moderately enhanced sharpness so the clothing's lace trimmings and cuff textures rendered crisp without blurring together.

Actually, another small tip for swimsuit cosplay is mastering skin glow and makeup longevity. Since sweating outdoors easily ruins makeup, I used two layers of loose powder to set the makeup firmly, and applied layered lip product with softened edges. Though these small steps seem inconspicuous, they make a huge difference in the final photo quality.

Genshin Impact itself boasts many excellent character settings and costume designs. Being able to cosplay a favorite character and recreate her summer look is truly a fulfilling achievement. Every photoshoot represents a deep understanding of the character and serves as self-training in outfit styling and personal expression.

The entire shooting process involved few complex movements, mostly relying on expressions and props to support the frame. I believe the secret to natural performance is avoiding forced awkward poses, instead immersing oneself in the character's personality and lore background, allowing the frame to naturally exude the corresponding atmosphere.
