Lately, I've been experimenting with this neutral-toned Convention photo post-processing aesthetic. Cosplaying Citlali this time (Citlali cosplay from Genshin Impact), I put deliberate thought into props to resonate with her lazy, nonchalant demeanor. The giant cloud prop featured in the frame was handcrafted by me using cotton batting and armatures; combined with throw pillows and dangling star lights, the ambient atmosphere instantly peaked. Previously, I often felt convention backgrounds were overly cluttered, so this time I took advantage of high-contrast lighting and darkened the background during post-processing to concentrate visual focus entirely on the subject.
During the shoot, I kept myself in as relaxed a state as possible. Because Citlali is such a distinctive character, my pose design steered away from lively or overly dynamic actions, focusing instead on sitting sideways, resting my chin on my hands, or simply zoning out while cradling a plush pillow. This languid demeanor, combined with neutral-toned editing, accentuated the character's nuanced presence beautifully. Convention hall overhead lights are notorious for being uncontrollable, easily casting unflattering facial shadows. To counter this, I brought a softbox on set to ensure smooth, diffused facial lighting. In post-production, I shifted the color grade toward muted blue-purples and desaturated greys, toning down harsh saturation while enhancing contrast to elevate the skin tones and the blue-and-white costume palette to an exquisite finish.
The outfit boasts abundant intricacies—from the chest gemstone and strapped gloves to the utterly charming boots. While calibrating the neutral palette, I took special care to preserve the layered textures of these materials, ensuring the image didn't turn muddy or lose focal points.
