Shooting this set for The Song of Saya involved extensive advance communication with Teacher Chocolate. Our primary focus was figuring out how to recreate that natural secret-realm feeling within a purely indoor environment. The final photos turned out to be an incredible surprise—you can't tell it was an indoor set construction at all. Today, I'm sharing the behind-the-scenes shoot notes and some of my personal reflections.

Studio shoots test set design and lighting above all else. This set employed a massive amount of withered wood, artificial moss, and ferns, combined with white sheer drapes and geometric framing; what was once a flat space instantly gained deep spatial dimension. To evoke that fantasy atmosphere tinged with eerie mystery, a haze machine was deployed on set. Most crucial of all was the lighting synergy. The photographer used rim-side backlighting to pierce through the artificial mist and foliage, casting dappled tree shadows across my clothes and face, making me feel genuinely immersed in a gloomy, secluded forest. In particular, the layer of transparent reflective film spread over the floor refracted under harsh light into textures resembling water surfaces or glacial ice, which became one of my favorite details in the entire series.

My cosplay wardrobe consisted of a white camisole slip dress featuring a slender black ribbon bow at the neckline, paired with a long, straight dark teal-green wig. The central prop was an anatomically styled heart. To embody Saya's inner state, I kept my demeanor serene and ethereal. Sitting on the withered tree trunk, I constantly calibrated my postures—sometimes clasping my hands together, sometimes gazing down pensively at the prop in my palms. To better accentuate body lines, I also tried side-reclining poses at the photographer's recommendation. Lying atop the reflective film, the synthetic crinkle, the icy coolness against my skin, and the coarse bark of the deadwood blended together, pulling me effortlessly into character. With the light sculpted around me, skin textures and fabric draping were captured with pristine clarity.

When I first held the heart prop, I was wondering how to hold it naturally. Its weight and tactile presence felt substantial, creating a striking visual contrast against the pristine white dress. When shooting seated angles, I adjusted my legs slightly to let the skirt drape fluidly while highlighting the strapped beige sandals on my feet. Though simple at glance, the attire projected an aura of fragile, pure beauty amidst this mystical forest sanctuary. The dark green hair layered cleanly against the shadowy background, with the bangs and temples groomed to precise curves.

The color grading centered around a stark contrast between cool forest greens and glowing orange-reds, allowing the white dress to pop luminously from the low-key backdrop. As an avid cosplayer, translating a character's visual motifs and underlying emotional currents through environment and demeanor is always both exhilarating and challenging. Everyone holds their own interpretation of The Song of Saya, and this gallery reflects my personal visual imagination of her. My apologies for any OOC aspects. I hope these photographs, hiding all traces of indoor set construction, bring everyone a distinct and memorable visual journey.
